Hi,
there is a new distribution / flash image for the Openmoko Freerunner, called "FDOM". It is based on the OM base system but adds and fixes applications so that it makes the FR a completely useable phone. Link: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/FDOM Nikolaus |

Oh my gosh, this is becoming too stupid. Why yet ANOTHER distribution? Wouldn't their "skills" be a better help if they were to actually contribute to the current distro?

Though I am completely with you here I believe it is more fun to quickly throw in the common buzzword which is always thrown in that case beforesomebody else does it: Freedom of choice. Which is more a "Fragmentation of choice" but, well, this is how the game works. *g* Oliver |

I'm pretty sure you'll still be greeted by the angstrom banner when logging in over ssh/serial. |

I have not tried FDOM myself but from reading what it is, it is everything but not ANOTHER (i.e. from scratch) distribution. It is a combination of what already exists. And it is based on the "current distro". Just a package that combines already existing things so that right after installation, users have a working set of applications. Appears very intelligent to me to do so. |

I HAVE tried it. Consider it a "convenience image". It includes some of the popular apps that have shown up on the lists and feeds. It includes fixes and scripts that folks have come up with, but haven't made it (or will never make it) to mainstream OM.
Effectively what you get is OM 2008.8 with the above addons that save time having to configure everything to work. It's not a fork, though it does have some additions that apparently will not make it to OM (such as Raster's keyboard). |

Raster's keyboard is included in the default OM2008.8, it is just disabled and the Qtopia keyboard is used instead. I don't really understand why when illume is way better in all aspects than the Qtopia keyboard, but I'm not running the project. |
