QUOTE(dz @ Sep 23 2004, 01:05 AM) Ok, so what you guys are proposing is to have a site that's much more than just a ZSI. You want a site that's a repository for all things embedded? That's interesting, and definately possible. Would I need to ask what kind of PDA a certain software is made for than when you enter it into the DB, or does that not matter as long as you're using the same os? I think perhaps the ability for the software developer to be able to specify which handhelds it was designed for/was tested for would be an advantage. |

hmm, how bout a mapping a bunch of names, and put up the results in a poll.
my 2cents generally speaking "branding" and the internet usually follow 2 simple rules. 1. try to limit your brand to 2 syllables 2. limit the number of constanents to an absolute minimum. exception is if your name needs to be big, but you use an acronym. we know it's linux so how about using penguin zoology> rookery, nest, types of penguins, King, Gentoo(taken), little blue penguin?lbp(smallest penguin?) movie theme angle: How about a penguin that looks like yoda? Zoda, Software for zaurus, i have!hmm, hmm non z names Emsource emdb emfeed moembed uniteos pimpware Motusembd random names Uberdb zoftware zware Zipk howabout names that have nothing to do with linux/software/computers roninblade butterkicks sweetpacket minibig quikfix buzzkila size1 sikred nuhit(newhit) bluelimit tastyburger icechili veggiemeat any animals anybody identifies with? bull penguin(obvious) tiger monkey sapien motto? peace lu ps. this is, if there is was a reason to have a zug meeting. or call it a zug party near you. Unless this is a private venture, please excuse my enthusiasm. libations tend to motivate creativity. |

For the domain name i dont know, I like vault (ZVault that someone said). Maybe thats could be like EVault (sure is taken) or LEVault (Linux Embedded Vault). LESoft.org. LHEsoft, LHEVault whatver is not 'bad' |

definitely mirroring is a good thing...
back to the name... dz and I were chatting last night... and I think it's agreed that the site name shouldn't have the name "zaurus" in it. the goal of the site is to start with zaurus apps/roms, then grow into a bigger embedded linux site. sven had came up with the name 'embedded linux software index' a while ago, but unfortunately elsi.org is taken. I know that the domain name isn't everything, but we're trying to brand this site, as it will eventually be a part of the overall non-profit organization. that said, many of the domain names for the names suggested have been taken, but I think these two are still available: embeddedapps.org lehat.org any more thoughts on these two names? any other name suggestions? thanks all! |

How about
zaurusgoodies handheldgoodies hanheldlinuxgoodies hlgoodies hungrypenguin stuffyourzaurus (just kidding) eldorado (Embedded Linux dorado - call me whacky) ipkheaven ipkindex Regarding "eldorado", the Spanish article "el" can be used with any noun of the male genus so the possibilities are wider. My personal favourite is hungrypenguin: my Zaurus always seems to be begging for new applications & capabilities z. |
