Ok i had to flash back to the sharp rom casue i could not get minicom to work right with my hp switches. But i want to get back to pdaxrom as soon as possible. Has anyone out there gotten minicom to work with a serail cable (not usb to serial)?

Also just some observations. First i really love pdaxrom and i consider it my "home" on my zaurus and i know that the 6000 i have is in the minority. That being said i discovered that i miss a few things about the sharp rom. I miss syncing with evolution (not really with the sharp apps but with the the kompany apps). Please dont throw stones but i just dont like kopi on my desktop. I also miss alarms that go off even if the pim is not open. I want to thank everyone for the work that was done to get kopi to wake up the Z and run an alarm. This is a huge step and was the main reason i could start using pdaxrom daily. But having to keep kopi running and watching to make sure it didnt crash every time i use the Z gets time consuming. I miss zplayer. I see a python mplayer frontend here in the forums that will soon be on my z so maybe i wont miss this one anymore. Finally i miss netfront. I have (thanks to people in #cacko and oe forums ) found links with graphics that seems to fill this void but it might take a while.

Again please dont consider this a down on pdaxrom, its the finest rom out for my 6000 and I love it. This is just meant to be helpful feed back, and maybe a cry for help to fill these voids.

Todd

I have an SL6000L and have never had issues with kopi crashing...

Maybe a suitable applet (I think there may even be one for kopi) could be compiled for pdaXrom? Are you unhappy with kopi in general, or just the alarms? I can imagine perhaps a more lightweight calendar app would be good...

Im not truely unhappy with kopi, it is a bit heavy but for the most part it is ok. On my desktop I need something that integrates to better with my email (which is either evolution or thunderbird when im not having to use exchange).

A little more on the crashing... Kopi tends to crash for me when ever something else fails, like xfce-panel or firefox crashes.

I have to admit that my biggest complaint with kopi is performance. The sharp rom is not nearly as fast (as a calendar pim) as an axim or palm. On pdaxrom it takes a bit to resume, then it takes a while to get the window to open, even longer if kopi is off or crashes. An alarm daemon exists on the sharp version of kopi but i read in an older thread that it could not run on pdaxrom for some reason.

I see that gpe calendar has been compiled and it has a multisync plugin, but it does not see to have an alarm function in its current state. But if that could work then it could be a great solution.

Food for thought, isn't it? With the huge increase in programs being (successfully) compiled for pdaXrom recently, I'm sure something is possible. Time for some investigation... smile.gif

I noticed that GPE has what i think is an alarm daemon but I dont have a system to compile on right now. But I wonder if it could be ported to pdaxrom since the calendar and other apps seem to run.

I also thought i would mention (to be fair) the stuff i am missing while im using the sharp rom (IE stuff pdaxrom rocks at). I miss the laptop feel, sharp rom makes my z feel like im using an old palm. I miss having a good imap email client that does not have to download all of my 1 gig of email (thunderbird and sylpheed work great on pdaxrom). I miss the games. Did i mention i miss the games. gewled is great. I miss firefox, even tho its heavy it comes in very handy. I miss installing just about everything to my 1 gig sd card ( i know you can install stuff on sd in the sharp rom but its fails for me more often than not). Really i miss the feel of it as well. Im counting the days tell i can go back.

I started down the zaurus road with a 5500 I bought off of tiger direct to replace my visor (that i smashed). At the time i had a vision of a good pda with ssh access, and it fit the bill. OZ worked great on it and I was happy. But with my 6000L i am searching for something else. Im looking for a device that can do the basic pim stuff fairly well, replace the bulky 4 year old laptop i carry around to work with switches, replace the expensive (but nice smile.gif laptop i carry to just about everywhere to stay connected to my email, servers, etc. I have to say that pdaxrom has looked like the rom to do just that from the moment i flashed it, and I just want to let the developers and everyone here know that some people really do value the work they do and find real benefit from it.

kopi has the ~/.kopi_next_alarm and ~/.kopi_suspend_alarm files which make wake on alarm quite simple with the apmsleep or atd scripts. However, I am having difficulty making any headway investigating the korganizer alarm applet, so maybe another option entirely will be the way to go. Which means the next step is to try the packages xromer has put together - see this thread. Not sure if the alarm daemon part is included, but...

(edit):

I have successfully installed gpe pim stuff, and the alarm setup looks really cool as it uses atd directly and won't need any extra work... except for the work in getting it to run! See the thread linked to above for more info
