Cleaning Up After Building Packages, I have filled up my 3100! Options

In spite of not having suspend/resume working I have been pleased with OpenBSD on my 3100 in as much as the process of building from the ports tree works remarkably well, even for a newbie like me ;o). I have managed to build over 90MB's worth of packages but my Z says it can do no more as the disk is full. As a consequence, I have decided to do a rebuild over the weekend and hope that the suspend/resume problem goes away!

Two questions:

1) Is there a procedure for cleaning up after building a port? there must be a lot of source code and temp files which are no longer needed. I guess that building via an NFS on another machine as documented on the planetofidiots website might overcome this.

2) I do not curently have any webspace to host a feed, but rather than keeping my 4.2 packages to myself, is there an area I can post them to? I have been focusing mainly on security applications so I have the following:

You can use make clean && make distclean. I wouldn't recommend building ports on your Z's internal micro drive. Here's instructions on how to setup a FreeBSD NFS server for building ports/src: NFS SERVER

jpmatrix has kindly offered his webspace to host my packages, perhaps you can contact him for an account.
My packages are also mirrored on another site offered by another friend of mine. Let me know if you also feel like uploading them there.
imho it would be a waste of our time and resources to make the same packages on our own. How about some collaboration to speed up the process, e.g. one builds kde stuff, and another concentrates on web application, and yet another on games, etc?

ZDevil, yes, it makes sense to work as a team rather than both cherry-picking the nicest applications. My interest is in the security packages so I will be looking to compile the likes of nessus, but I am also aware that the platform needs some of the basics such as window managers, a fast and capable browser and some PIM applications.

I'm happy to have a go at anything but I'll let you call the shots. Please note that it may be a while before I've rebuilt my Z and got an NFS compiling environment setup.

So, to start off, how about you concentrating on the security packages and me PIM stuff (now working on emacs21, emacs23 w/ unicode & XFT support, jpilot, hnb, and kdepim, and even evolution)?
I've already built a handful of browsers (e.g. dillo, links+, etc) and several remain on my batch list (e.g. minimo, konqueror-embedded).
fvwm2 and ion are also in my feed. I will build windowmaker, icewm and a few other fast WM as well.

Do try building via NFS (I am doing it with my Macbook, see http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=24541 ). It is both faster and free of space constraint.

Forgot to add Calcurse, a really nice minimalist PIM app. The funny thing is the Calcurse homepage says it's already ported to OpenBSD, but I have yet to find it in the ports tree ...
Notecase is a great tool as well. But first I have to take my very first step to create a brand new port outside of the ports tree...

For browsers I am looking for something a bit more featured that dillo but not as heavy as firefox. Although I have comiled firefox, and it works, I am sure that I was actually aiming to compile epiphany at the time, not sure what happened there but it took 3 days and out came firefox! oh well! Attempting to compile konqueror was what finally filled up my Z so within my packages there will be many of the dependan ones for konqueror. Might try comiling galeon.

I have already done icewm and had been using it as my wm. I also like xfce4 as it makes it easy to change fonts which is useful on a Z which has a very small screen. I have done two packages which allow it to but need to do the rest of the modules as well.

In answer you your question on optimisation, no, I am a newbie here so I am stricly "make" and "make install" but I'm always happy to learn.

Back to rebuilding the Z now, I have a 10.4 powerbook so your instructions should work for me, I'll be back when I am fully "tooled up" again ;o)

I just got a C3000 last week on eBay. I've installed OpenBSD on it thanks to the help of mathemajikian's website download installation files and recent snapshots. I hope to get to building some packages soon, as soon as I figure out how to get NFS set up on my desktop. I tried to do it several months ago for some music files I wanted to share but didn't get it working. I'll now have a better reason to keep trying to figure it out.
