Is there a program that I can open the IPK files on my XP computer? I want to check the files and see if it would be worth buying a Zaurus.
I'm interested in the SL-C3000. |

Do you want to see what's inside the ipk or do you want to run the program in the ipk on XP?
If you want to do the 1st then rename the ipk from package.ipk to package.ipk.tgz and it will open with winzip. If you want the 2nd then you are out of luck - the programs in the ipk will only run on linux with the qtopia installed AND will only run on arm CPU - XP is neither of these. Stu |

I use 7-zip. All I have to do is right click on the file and go to open archive. And best of all Its Free!!!!

I want to run the ipk file.
If there is a person smart enough to make a program that can run the files in XP please help. I'm sure someone has made something that works. |

I remember ppl said that perviously that:
IPK can't be run under PC, even in LINUX becuase the programs are in RISC while PC are in CISC. And there are no emulator developed to run under PC. |

So, if a RISC computer is running at 400Mhz does that if compared to a PC it runs at a much higher speed?

Although I took an architecture class last year, the details are all fuzzy now
 I googled and found this article about RISC vs CISC. Main conclusion of the article is that the speed of the machine doesn't really depend on the architecture, but the performance improvements in RISC systems now is dependent on the hardware supporting the processor (cache, registers, pipelining, etc). |
