Hi everyone,
I'm getting quite excited. . . I've just ordered a C1000, and I'm now looking at accessories. This will be my 1st PDA I plan to have ~2GB SD for general storage, and from advice I've just read ~32MB CF for flashing. I also want wi-fi, but would prefer it not to be CF slot based (keeping the CF free for other things). . . So, my question; are there any USB wi-fi alternatives, or other non-invasive devices? I do have a Netgear USB dongle already (11g), which would save a bit of money if it'd work. Apologies if this question has been asked before. Regards. Mc |

yes, and no.
The Z does indeed support usb wifi. unfortunately the Z's usb doesn't quite have the juice to power the external usb radios. So, if you wish to use a usb wifi setup, you'll neet to use a powered hub. I think there are internal wifi hardware hacks for the 1000, but I suspect they are tricky and dangerous to the Z. If you are thinking about storage on your 1000, 4 gig sd cards are now pretty affordable, and can run on sharp, cacko, OZ, pdaXrom beta 1.1. All besides OZ require you to insatall an sd driver ipk to make it work, and my experience in sharp, at least, is that the card needs to be partitioned. |

It's interesting to know that the Z supports the concept, however, I hadn't considered the power requirements. Anyway, now I know what to do |

I'm working on building a self powered usb hub that plugs straight into my 3100. I'll post up some pics once it's done.

I was thinking alog the lines of trying to mod a wifi dongle to power itself with a watch battery. More up your alley than Mine, though, Barry, Hey, that's a good idea!! Would need a power switch too. |

The item shown in this post can come in handy for USB device users on the go:
