When I insert my wireless card I get two devices...a wlan0_rename device that works and a eth4 device that doesn't work. It looks like debian is trying to rename the device when it is inserted but not doing it right or something. Anyone know how I can just get my normal wifi0 or wlan0 devices? I have no idea why nor do I need it to be called an ethX device.

Your generated udev rules are probably out of whack; try deleting the /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules file and then reinserting the card.
