I made myself a 4AA battery box, which is more convient in my view
 Beside, if you mess up w/ the +/- on that Emergency charger, it will toast your Zi

I bought myself one of the Initial external batteries from Walmart which outputs 9 volts. Now I just have to convert it to 5 volts. And yes, I'll be sure to get the plug right  John |

Here we go.
I made a special USB charging cable for my C3000 by myself. White portion and DC plug (type  can be found in Radio Shack.Black portion was originally USB charging cable for my old Nokia phone. I cut it off because I don't use Nokia phone any more.

CyberPower's USB hub has built-in 4 AAA NiMH batteries and is able to power to USB devices. So, by plugging the hand-made USB charging cable (picture above), it is possible to charge C3000 from the USB hub. Pros: - You still have 3 USB ports available. - Maybe works with Alkaline AAA batteries as well. Cons: - This hub only produces power when the host side is active. That is, the hub must be attached to C3000 with USB host cable and also C3000's power has to be ON. can you see that charging LED is ON ?

One more. Radio Shack's type B tip is compatible to Zaurus and also my Archos MP3 player. When I swap it with type A tip, I can recharge my Sanyo cell phone. |

i recentrly received a zaurus c700 from a friend of japan, but he didnt sended the cables, so i have to made my own charger cable. first i made the usb charger cable, it works, but my external usb hub (it has his own power) gets a little hot, so i decided to modify a nokia charger, i added a 470uF cap then a LM7805, the another cap and this output to the zaurus.
The Lm7805 gets a little hot, but it is working ok, i checked and when it reached the 4.99v the zaurus stop charguing and the LM7805 is almost cold. But i realize that if i turn the zaurus on, it starts charging again, so i think that the nokia charguer (~750ma) is not giving the sufficient current. If you want to use an emergency cell phone charger just buy one, but add a capacitor in order to get a really DC voltaje, because this kind of chagers uses a DC-Dc convertors and his output oscilates. and after the capacitor add a 5v regulator, and it will be working. |

Actually, I get that behavior with my C760 using the "real" Sharp charger so it may be normal behavior and not a problem with your charger. |

Yes there is a easy clue. First get the conector that will be used to connect the zaurus to the external power. Now with the conector in the zaurus, just put your multimeter in the diode option. then connect the probes to the both terminals of the connector. If you see a diode (the multimeter shows like a 500-700 value) the positive probe of the multiemter will be Ground and the negative probe will be the positive supply. If you wants to check this, just test the continuity from the negative terminal of the battery connector to one of the terminals of the external power of the zaurus, that will be your ground. Easy!!! |
