I've installed cups on my akita, and I'm not sure exactly how to add a printer.
How do I add a printer? I have read through the cups documentation, but it says to do the lpadmin command and I get the errors I listed before. I've probably missed something obvious |

I'll have a look on pdaXrom (oz isn't installed right now, though I fear pdaX has died and I need to switch) no localhost:631, it seems. |

Same here, with the web interface, it would be very easy (although I think I would probably get the same errors as I get in the command-line). I am pretty sure a few people have it setup that frequent the forums, so I hope one of them will be able to give some input. Do I possibly need the cups-dev package? |

I've asked him for help, but I don't think he checks his PM box or maybe he is too busy, which I understand He always has a reply for negative comments about OZ, maybe if I say "OZ is bad" he will see it |

Oz has a native compiler, right? I mean you could grab the source and compile the thing on your z? a 700 doesn't have usb. he must be either using a network (easy) or a cf usb adapter. |

My above post linked to this site:
http://www.kamg.de/linux/ CODE Translated German to English,
Here it concerns Linux generally and the Zaurus (Linux PDA von Sharp) in the special one. Up to now I did not have time, therefore am also not much to be found here. Here my first ipk for the Zaurus (tested on my SL5500G with OpenZaurus version 3.3.6pre1): cupsclient_1.1.20_arm.ipk Ccommon Unix Printing System Makes possible printing pdf and Postscriptdokumenten over a CUPS server (standard pressure system under SuSE Linux 8.*, 9. *). Note: /etc/cups/client.conf must be adapted. In most cases only the variable server name is to be set. cupsys-bsd_1.1.20_arm.ipk Ccommon Unix Printing System BSD of instructions for CUPS. lpr and lpq etc. for CUPS. Sets cupsclient ahead. cups-opie-sh_0.1_arm.ipk Ccommon Unix Printing System Small Opie SH script for cupsclient, in order to query the server status and print out files. |

I tried installing it, but it tries to install everything cups has already installed, but that also tells me that cups client isn't what's missing. Thanks! The search goes on. Isn't linux fun? |

I don't mean to clutter up this thread, but I opened cups-opie-sh_0.1_arm.ipk
Then extracted cups_opie_sh It looks like this would work in Sharp/Cacko, because the directory structure is the same. I extracted cups-opie-sh_0.1_arm added .tgz to it, then I had a look at the directories. It contains a .desktop file, a .png icon, and cups_opie_sh |

We're all trying to get USB printing working, anything that helps toward this cause isn't cluttering the thread. Have you installed the cupsclient package?

No, I haven't. I'm between using a 12 year old printer and purchasing a new one with USB & Bluetooth, (If I can find one with both interfaces thats not really expensive). If I installed it now, I wouldn't be able to test it because my old printer is parallel only and I don't have a USB -> to parallel cable. EDIT: And besides, I don't have any apps in Cacko that will print to a printer. I was thinking of installing Meanie's pdaXqtrom to get apps with printing capabilities. EDIT2: Here's a google page with 615 links to cups zaurus related pages: http://www.google.com/search?hs=P52&hl=en&...in%C2%A0results This post has been edited by Jon_J: Jul 11 2006, 12:47 PM |
