Hello,
to be honest I've actually never used wifi on openbsd before but I will use it very shortly. I will use 1)current because wicontrol is gone and ifconfig had some major wifi improvements. and 2) kismet from ports I think that should be enough. Any other suggestions welcome! kind regards |

I occasionally use my own Wifi point with OpenBSD but have never used a public one.. I have Kismet installed and that does seem to pick up all my neighbors access points quite well.
Familiarise yourself with pf if you are going to do this, a very functional built in firewall. -Andy |

I will post the information about the USB adapter I use with the powered USB hub shown above due to the numerous PM's I have had asking me which adapter I use:
The USB hub will not support networking via CF based network cards. The hub only supports networking via USB based network adapters. Here's the one I use: Buffalo 54 Mbps* Wireless USB 2.0 Keychain Adapter ![]() Model: WLI-U2-KG54-AI Features: • Small & Compact Design • 802.11g/b, up to 54 Mbps • Easy Setup with Auto Install (no driver needed) • Installs Client Manager software automatically • Supports AOSS™ • Supports WPA and 128/64-bit WEP Security • USB 2.0/1.1 • Bus Powered • Internal Diversity Antenna • Supports Infrastructure or Ad-hoc Modes • USB Extension Cable Included Note: There is switch on the side of the device which must be pushed forward away from the dot in order for the USB adapter to work under OpenBSD-3.9 |
