How To Sync Calendar With Bluetooth? Options

I know there is a lot of threads on how to set up wireless syncing with WIFI, but how can I do this with bluetooth? Is there a how-to available?

I don't see how it is different. You setup either a PAN or PPP Bluetooth connection to your PC and then you have the same TCP/IP connection as you would with WiFi.

tumnus, I am with you. I think it should be that simple. Do you have it working like that? My only concern was with Intellisync and Zaurus Manager. Do I need to do anything special there?

BTW - Can someone point me in the right direction on getting PAN connection to work with WXP laptop? The laptop can see the Z but the Z PAN connection does not connect. Keeps saying..."Start connecting" from the applet window and then timesout.

The howto mentions installing packages but I thought that Cacko 1.21b had all that was needed. Can someone indicate what needs to be done on Cacko 1.21b to enable Intellisync to work with Bluetooth using Socket card Rev. F?

Sorry, missed that you had the Cacko ROM. Yes it should have all the necessary drivers etc.

I would have thought the sections in the howto about setting up a connection to a PC would apply the same as long as you have already got your Bluetooth running and can discover your PC.

I'm trying to set up the same thing at the moment. The Z can connect through Bluetooth to my phone fine, but not to the PC.

"How is it different?" you might ask. Well...

• A connection to the phone requires a phone number.
• A connection to the phone requires authentication, whereas the PC does not (it only requires the two to be paired.)
• For some reason, the Zaurus doesn't see a PC as "having a DUN profile", even if it obviously does.

Authentication can be enabled or disabled on the receiving end, so your PC can have it if it wants.

The connection itself does not have to be different. The DUN connection to a phone starts off as a serial connection, as if you had a serial cable to your phone, and then PPP is used to establish a TCP/IP connection over that. Basically the BT DUN profile is the same as the Serial Profile, and every PC should be able to support one of these. You can still use PPP to connect to a PC and you simply omit the modem dialup commands and instead use the PPP script for connecting to a PC as specified in the Bluetooth howto I wrote on the ZUG.

Alternatively, you can use the PAN profile to establish a TCP/IP connection as this is much more similar to a wireless ethernet connection. A howto for this is linked from my ZUG Bluetooth howto.

Either way, you end up with a TCP/IP connection which works in exactly the same way as a WiFi connection, so any instructions on syncing over WiFi should work exactly the same.

If your PC does not offer either Serial or PAN profiles, then either you have not enabled them or this is a defficiency in your Bluetooth adapter as not all adapters support all profiles.

Yeah, I eventually ended up setting up PAN. The main thing stopping me was that the interface wasn't appearing on the desktop when the Zaurus connected, but once I put the line I needed into /etc/conf.d/net it was fine.

But PAN corrupts packets. If I wget a file across a PAN link, the checksums never match afterwards. So whereas I can use it for simple web surfing, it's completely useless for transferring files. So I'm back to using the usb0 link to get files onto the SD card and such, which is a lot faster anyway.

And of course, syncing across a link which corrupts data scares the shit out of me. :-)

But I'm sure the scene will change when I get a wifi card anyway.
