So here I am, sitting in a hotel waiting for somebody. Across the lobby I see a couple using WiFi from their laptop, and I Realise that I have a WiFi card in my Pocket.

Heh,
I have found myself scanning for WiFI while waiting in line at the shops... It is interesting what people have running. Our local DIY place was stuffed full of WiFI, alas all secured Free WiFI spots are very handy for killing time... |

If you have a long enough line you may wanna try your luck cracking it |

I seen an interesting page for a modified version of Knoppix that will crack WEP in around 10 minutes. It's a stand-alone bootable CD called Whoppix, but it uses some common tools like kismet, aireplay, and airecrack.
Should be able to port the tools over to Zaurus if they're open source. |

kismets already done, and there is a WEP tool floating around here. It's just that an average collie only has 2 hours battery life, using wifi this drops to about 40 mins. And when you have to collect 20 minutes or so of packets for the cracking tool that doesn't leave much battery life for the actual cracking.
I think I read somewhere that a C-860 had cracked a 128 bit key after like 6 hours. So a collie would likely take longer with its slower processor. |

I use to hang out at cofeebean everyday using a zaurus sl5500 to websurf on pure batteries. 30 minutes was all i needed. When i had my laptop, there where around 20 stations with wi wi and you all are familiar with the "pay 20 dollars a month" for wi-fi for starbucks or something like that.
This guy set up a netgear from his apartment and everybody was on from the coffeebean. anway, i was lucky to connect to that particular free based wifi. and i want to know how can i use my zaurus to scan for wifi connections and connect to it? |

A few people have gotte wellenreiter II to work on the Sharp rom. I haven't. The easier option in my opinion is kismet. |

I found that wellenreiter wanted an older version of a library - run it from the command prompt. So I hacked in a softlink and made it work. Meanwhile, kismet_client now segfaults on me, when it used to work perfectly. sigh. |
