I am seriously thinking about using Angstrom on my SIMpad SL4 as recommended on opensimpad.org. But the site does not give any real certainty about the usability of the current release. Some parts on the page says it works, some parts contradict that.
Is the 2.6 Kernel and Angstrom stable and working? Does it support the bluetooth & MMC card mods as described on opensimpad.org? I understand that the sound isn't, and that is not a problem as long as my bluetooth CF adapter can use my Mobile as a modem for internet browsing. I just want to use email and the internet on a more modern OS and browser than windows CE 4.0 Thank you in advance for answering my n00b questions. |

I don't have a SimPad, but I can tell you my experience of running it on my C860 yesterday.
I installed the 2007 altboot console image (because I need to get altboot working for testing dualbooting). Install went fine. At first I could get wifi working very easily. But then, I did "ipkg update" and then "ipkg upgrade" to upgrade the system. It did download and install a whole lot of packages. In the end, my wifi card suddenly failed to work. Plugging in. No light. Nothing from dmesg. At first I was thinking the card died... But I reinstalled the whole thing again (using the same console image). This time I changed the feeds pointing to the "2008" repo sources. Alas, upgrade stopped at some point. Then the system froze. There's nothing I (knew I) could do. I did read the wiki and Manual on the Angstrom website before doing all this. There seems to be nowhere mentioning managing the feeds. Something goes wrong but no documentation. Also searched the Angstrom mailing lists using the two engines suggested by the wiki. Nothing found. How about the bugtracker? Still nothing. This must be a very interesting situation. Or it's just bad luck on me. Hey, my wifi isn't dead. It works normally on other systems (Debian, Cacko). |

Hi,
please point me to the topics which are confusing. Maybe they are leftovers and I need to clean up them. Angstrom is quite stable and usable on my pad. I use it with minimo (firefox based). The bluetooth and mmc card mod support is included into the images. Please provide more information about your CF bloutooth card and your mobile else I am not able to tell you if you will be able to use it. best regards mr nice |

May I ask if there is a functional pdf viewer (about as fast as adobe acrobat reader for win.ce) that supports hyperlinks and maybe bookmarks/table of contents available?

Hi,
I never used acrobat on wince but you can try evince, it supports hyperlinks. There is also epdfview which is smaller and also supports hyperlinks. The disadvantage of epdfview is, that on simpad you cannot use the switch buttons to scroll. But I suggest just try them both and than decide for one. I am using epdfview on my pad, but if you only want to use your simpad as ebook reader I suggest evince because of the switch button support. best regards mr nice |
