Does anyone know where I can get a Z nowadays? pricejapan seems to have stopped "stocking" them. I don't really want to buy via European or N American importers as I'm based in HK. GeekStuff4U.com appears to have the C1000 & C3200 available. I ordered my C1000 from them and didn't have any problems. |

Brett Bennett is very helpful. cycle_55 |

Trisoft, any news about whether Sharp have manufactured any new batches of Zs recently, or is the new Sharp D4 thing going to take over?

Hi Speculatrix,
Trisoft, any news about whether Sharp have manufactured any new batches of Zs recently last batch of SL-C1000 we got were produced in January 2008. We also looked a bit puzzled about a 2008 production run. "Officially" they're over and out since late 2007, but we still get some. ///TRIsoft Marc Stephan |

Oh my! That is somewhat encouraging. It sounds like the Zaurus factory is still semi-operational and Sharp brings it back online as needed to generate additional units. The high minimum unit order size must be fulfill their third party contract supplies sizes. For example Hitachi may require Sharp to order the MicroDrives in quantities of 500+ in order for Sharp to get their fixed contract price. I don't think I have ever heard of an large conglomerate do this type of demand manufacturing after the official end of life on the product line. But, I shouldn't be too surprised since Sharp has been doing custom design and manufacturing with Wilcomm for example. Now which Zaurus owner is the CEO of a well known and moneyed tech related firm so they can approach Sharp on designing a true next generation Zaurus?

that willcom/sharp D4 looks to be as close as we're going to get to SonOfZaurus. The thing is, the C3xxx motherboard looks as if there were pads on the PCB for bluetooth, bumping up the memory wouldn't be too hard, and adding wifi not too difficult - it would be relatively little effort for Sharp to have produced C3300 and C3300W models, they just lack the vision!

Hi all,
Hey Trisoft, any news on latest manufacturing dates? yes, sad news. Last production run was March 2008. And we're now out of stock with new units. Looks like it's now really over and out. And the Edelweiss looks really pretty. Thanks for the link, never noticed it before. ///TRIsoft Marc Stephan |

interesting - phone + zaurus
http://www.jkontherun.com/2008/10/sharp-9225h--ph.html http://www.jkontherun.com/images/2008/10/1...ndset_open.jpeg In the "at least it's not the same old, same old" department, AVING has spotted a handset from Sharp that looks and acts like a MID. The 9225H is surprisingly small and thin yet has a Sharp Zaurus-like keyboard inside that looks pretty darn functional. It has a 3.5-inch wide VGA screen and a little LED display on the outside while in handset mode for phone functions. This will probably never step foot out of Asia but it's great to see something totally different.
