2 part question:
a) will there ever be compatibility such that the SDHC cards can be used in a zaurus? b)is it possible to use regular SD cards that have a capacity greater than 4 GB (when/if they come out)?? |

This has been mentioned a few times already in forums. SDHC has a hardware and and software components to it. The software component is done and is availalble for the latest 2.6 kernel. It will eventually filter down to the Z ROMs based on 2.6 if it hasn't already been done. However, even when it does, it won't be too useful to the Z because the Z does not have the necessary SDHC hardware. As far as greater than 4GB non-SDHC cards. Well, anything is possible but, I highly doubt it since the manufacturers have to closely follow the SD stardards so they can continue to use the SD trademark. Most manufacturers wouldn't consider it worth the legal hassle to produce non-SDHC high capacity cards. |

but dosent sdhc require backwards compatability
 ie dosent it work with the slower speeds with just a software change, the only diffrence in terms of hardware is the call for a higher clock signal (4bit SD is 25Mhz max, i assume SDHC calls for double that or more). with a bit of req tweaking most equipment should do that. that is if they are designed to be used with diffrent crystals, not sure about the pxa as they pretty much specify a 13Mhz crystal, i havent seen anything refering to another crystal speed that isnt the rtc and all the calcs assume a 13Mhz osscilator. that said it might be worth seeing if the registers allow you to change the timing on the SD hardware i think we could make it work. |

I too would hope that an SDHC driver will become available for the Z, along with an SDIO driver too! However, I think that getting it ported to Cacko is less likely than seeing it as part of OZ, pdaXrom or even Angstrom

the only dirver that exsists in the sharp implementation is for sdio serial, so basically your sdio gps reciver and thats about it (and barcode/rfid readers)

actually there is a profile definied by the SDHC people for bluetooth, so it mont be over serial most likley
actually USB and bluetooth are great because the guys who wrote the spec said "this is the interface between the driver and the hardware for device X, live with it" so most drivers work for everything. its only those a@#$% that decide to change one thing and then need a driver |

actually the mont should be a wont, the rfid and barcode readers should just show up as a serial port. perhaps the we will get lucky with the bluetooth
any one have any idea how complete the SDHC driver is in the mainline kernel at the moment? |
