To each his own, zmiq2...but for me I don't normally use 3g, too expensive...but use wifi almost everyday, and ethernet everyday as I can't use wifi at work.... If you need 3g, you can use a USB card right?....that's what I do when I'm travelling during work hours... |

Is WPA2 not safe enough? I agree on limited availability of public WiFi though. As for 3G, personally I prefer "external" 3G via a USB modem (yes, Huawei E160 and E220 are said to work fine) or a tethered phone. That way I can use 3G on my phone and share the connection to other devices if necessary. Internal 3G would mean having to get another SIM card to me, and not being able to use it across multiple devices. Merlin1 |

I think mobile devices need integrated 3g:
- no dongles hanging - when I'm at home/office, I don't use a mobile device with small screen/keyboard, apart from emailing and low network tasks - no tethering: 3g gets too much battery, so I don't want to spend my phone call battery for data; phone is too important to waste the battery twittering or so ... - with a mobile device, network consumption is not very high, because it barely plays videos and battery runs out faster; for real downloading I'll always use dsl with a powered computer ... - 3g is getting real cheap, at least in europe: I have one special sim for 3g, 5euro/month for 500MB - nowadays even the cheapest phone is 3g enabled, come on, even if you don't use it, it should be already integrated, it doesn't add much to the cost. Isn't bluetooth and wifi already integrated, even some people may not use it? - I think I read like 1 month ago that wpa2 security was also at risk; there was a group working on rainbow method to decrypt; of course, though, there also exist 3g decrypting tools ... but the point is that the vast majority of people just use wep, like 90% of wifis are wep only, giving a false sense of security - internal 3g should be implemented with hot-pluggable sim, like the nokia booklet does, then you can easily plug the sim in the laptop or whatever other 3g device you want to use. I'm amazed that all phones you have to switch it off / remove the battery to change the sim; this is obviously a 'carrier-friendly feature' manufacturers don't want to change, to prevent sim swapping. I'm amazed people never complain about this; for me, the nokia booklet is a winner just for this feature |

QUOTE - 3g is getting real cheap, at least in europe: I have one special sim for 3g, 5euro/month for 500MB I wish I lived in Europe. Depending on your carrier, here in the good old USA, data plans are more like $45 to $119.99 per month, depending on limits. |

In Germany, the cheapest plan I can find is about €15/month for 1GB, and then additional costs for the dongle and sign-up come up. Right now I'm paying €30/month for 500MB but this is a 2-year-contract with a phone so not directly comparable. |

And you must add 16% tax... hi fpp 1) the plan for 24.99 is for unlimited data, up to 5gb full umts, from that at low speed 2) the plan I'm talking about is 5euro/month +16%vat is for up to 500mb/month; even it's true in their website per month is not explicitly detailed, that's how it works. I've been using it for more than a year, and I do review my invoices monthly. And there is not any minimum monthly fee! |
