Back in July I needed my C3100 for some Linux development, and I got a lot of good use out of it. Sadly, since my recent accident at work, I have only used my Z twice in the past month, and I'm afraid it's starting to collect dust. I think I need to downgrade, but to what?
I should be returning to work next month (Yay!!!), and I'll still be working with Linux, but more with embeded devices than ones like the Zaurus. I still need a PDA, but there aren't many choices out there. I'm not crazy where Palm is heading, and I absolutly detest Windows mobile. One thought is like the Tapwave Zodiac, I have seen a few new ones for sale; or possibly a Sony Clie in decent condition. Mostly what I need in a PDA is: Appointments, Contacts, Text Editor, and a Photo Viewer, which I would like the wider display(320X480). I don't really need a music player, I'm planning to get a seperate one anyway. When I do sell my C3100, I will be using Ebay...which will cause less problems for everybody. All I need is some advice on this, thanks. |

You could try a SL-5600. They are lower-end and seem to fit your criteria, except for the screen, but if you really want a nice screen, keep your SL-C3100. The keyboard, however small, has to be better than not having a keyboard, and with Linux you can get tons of free apps to play with.
You could also try a different distro. PdaXrom is great and I use my Z with it much more than I did with Cacko. Just my thoughts. |

I suggest you keep what you have. I go through periods of time where I only use my Z for appointments and to look at an occasional ebook. Then there are times where I'm just about maxing its capabilities.
Things ebb and flow and I think you will be glad you just weathered the lull in the action. |

I generally take a beating when attempting to downgrade. By the time you sell it for less than you paid for it and pay too much plus shipping for the replacement, you are left with lesser capability and a few nickels in your pocket.

I see what you guys are saying...and I appreciate that, but I did buy the C3100 to be used for work. Now work has changed some of the projects, and I feel now I have more than what I need. With my work, I see me needing a C3xxx device again since the company scrapped all the current projects, so I'm not sure what to do.

I'm a hospital receiving dock porter. I use it to check my email at coffee break and lunchtime. If you were going to get one now for what you just want as a PDA and to play with, instead of for work, I'd recommend an 860. In fact, however, I'd trade mine for yours in about a second. The hard-drive, the possibility to use the updated driver for the multiG SD cards, mrowff ... Can't afford it though. |

downgrading your PDA will cost you double - first you'll lose loads on selling it. then in 6 months time you'll be on the forums and something new will emerge and you'll regret it... and eventually buy one again.
When the ZPSX emulator came out I was eager to try it, and can now. I had an 860 and sold it when I was made redundant at beginning of the year. I mourned its loss, and when things picked up bought a 3100. I probably, actually almost certainly, could have made do with a 1000... but the potential of the 3100 makes a big difference. e.g. I've been able to se the microdrive for storing the whole of tomtom on ext3 filesys, and use softlinks, rather than lots of hackery with symlinks and an SD card. |

Looks like I will be selling the C3100, which I'm getting everything together for it, should be up on Ebay early next week. The reason why I'm doing this is I'm not going to be any more work with the zaurus, and it doesn't make much sense to keep something around that you don't use.

I dont want to see someone get ripped off(not referring to you)... but at the same time I dont want to see you not make a sale... I would *personallly* refrain from posting the ebay link or speaking of the sale, just to save you the hassle... But when war breaks out again... "I told you so" Late |

Even though I'm still going to be working with Linux on a desktop, and I have used Palm OS, WM, etc...what's a good basic PDA to go with? |

Where would you find a forum to get help with questions on other pda's?

You never give up. Not trying to cause any friction of any kind, It was only an update, not intended as an advert. That is the reason why I have not posted the links or listed an ad in the For Sale/Trade section. |
