Now I'm trying to do the opposite of what I was trying before (which, by the way, worked great when I used the VNC client from the official VNC site). I'm trying to VNC into my Powerbook using Keypebble.
My Zaurus is a C-760 and I'm running the Cacko Qtopia 1.21b ROM. The version of Keypebble I have is opie-keypebble 1.0.0. On my Powerbook, I'm using "Share My Desktop" (a wrapper for OSXvnc). When I connect to my Powerbook, the display draws out and fills the screen. The moment it's finished drawing, the applications crashes and dies. I tried different settings (including the scale factor) and I get the same results. Here's the settings I'm currently using with Keypebble: Check for screen updates every: 1ms Request 8-bit session: checked Raise on bell: not checked Request Shared Session: checked Scale Factor: 1 Hextile encoding: greyed out CoRRE encoding: greyed out RRE encoding: greyed out Copy rectangle encoding: checked Does anyone know what could be causing the crash of keypebble? Thanks Curt |

Hi, Curt
How wedded are you to Share My Desktop? I'm typing this on my Z from across the room while connected to my iBook using OSXvnc v1.4. No problems whatever so far and setup was cake. http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/11283 Let me know how you fare that way. |

Share My Desktop should just be a wrapper for OSXvnc, however, it might be that the version of OSXvnc is old. I'll try version 1.4 in a bit. Right now I'm upgrading to Cacko Qtopia 1.22. I'll let you know how it goes. Curt |

zaurus-vncserver package included in the Cacko feed has a java viewer. So, in theory you should be able to point your web browser to http://zaurus:5800 and it will work.

Now if I could only find a VNC client that did millions of colors and one that was more responsive. I recently read an article about a guy using a PPC handheld to VNC into his powerbook to watch EyeTV. I tried doing the same, but it just won't update quickly enough. Well, maybe that guy was talking a load of BS... seems odd that if it can be done it wouldn't work even on my powerbook to iMac VNC connection on a 802.11g network with all components in the same room. Thanks for the help! Curt |
