QUOTE(range @ Jan 15 2005, 11:10 AM) Is 7.55 built for the Zaurus 6000? Yup, when downloading it says it's for the 5600 and 6000. (But works on other systems too, although it's more unstable) |

QUOTE(eemark @ Jan 16 2005, 10:21 PM) But when I install the opera 7.55 it replys ipkg error! What is the problem internal memory(I have 12 mb internal memory) or something wrong?? the multimodal ipk packs too much junk in it. Itself is about 5mb. The problem is before the installation the stock ipkg unpacks the package also in your internal memory. Take a look at your /home/QtPalmtop/etc/ipkg.conf. The line "dest tmpinst /home/tmp/ipkg/inst" is the guilty part. You'd better free up more space, then it will install fine. if you want to get rid of the multimodal junk after installation (frees up about 2-3mb). Please change the .ipk to .tgz to see the locations of the junk by winzip. I cleaned the following directories as well as some useless files like index, license, and etc. /home/zaurus/.opera/apps/ /home/QtPalmtop/opera/voice/ /home/QtPalmtop/opera/start/ hope it helpss. btw, opera 7.55 works nicely on my 6K. Even I got konqueror and firefox running with debian, i still use opera frequently. The speed and page layout are super in most cases. |

I've also got 7.55 working well on my 6000, and I like it better than v7.25 because it seems more stable and the rendering is tough to beat. It's a shame the multimodal takes up so much space because it's really pretty cool -- provided you don't mind being seen/heard talking in an authoritative voice to the electronic device in your hand. It's nice to surf without having to do much thumb typing.

Don't you miss the bigger toolbar from 7.25? I installed 7.55 and the little toolbar is just too small for my eyes. Don't know how to enlarge it!
BTW, how does one run the voice activated demos? I have not been able to do so. |

The homepage that comes with it has the demo's, just click on one of them, pizze or chinese food menus, pretty cool. I deleted them so I can't really help you more than that. |

I have to take my words back. The voice command seems not so crappy. In the voice setting, delete the "browser" so you don't have to say that word every time. everything else is default. Use your center of the D-pad or space to activate the voice mode.
say "voice commands" to get help. response time and voice recognition accuracy is better than acceptable. some of my frequently used voice commands are back forward page up page down show bookmarks zoom in/out ... btw, i just use a cell-phone headset. |

QUOTE(rip @ Mar 25 2005, 04:11 AM) Hello guys, let's see if I can revive this thread... I just installed Opera 7.55 on my SL-6000 with original Sharp ROM. Everything works fine, although as expected it refused to be installed on CF or SD and I had to put it on the Internal Flash. No big deal, I can live with that, even though I was hoping I could install it on CF/SD so that for a while I could have both version 7.25 and 7.55 for comparison purposes. At any rate, here are my questions for those with more experience than me: 1. I was expecting to end up with more or less the same space occupied on the Internal memory (7.55 installed should mean 7.25 removed, right?) I have instead about 3Mb MORE occupied compared to when I had the "stock" Opera 7.25. Is it because some of the old files have to be removed manually or rather is it Opera 7.55 just a bigger installation? Reading through this thread all the comments about the voice command function makes me thing it is just Opera 7.55 being bigger.... 2. Is there any way to "trick" Opera (or any other program for that matter) into being installed on CF/SD even it would have to go on the internal memory? With Opera 7.55 installed I'm a little over 18Mb taken on the Internal memory, I'd like to keep it lighter if possible. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Tosa rocks............. |

In a previous post for OZ some one mentioned that 'Please note that this is for an SD-card install... and you should remove or edit the postinst for any other install destination.' in http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15885 I haven't try or attempt to modify the mentioned file, hack, i don't even know where is the posyinst.. Thanks. P/S: did someone notice that on sharp's site, it says re-launching the development project, i'm not sure, i saw that in the link in opera 7.55 home page, but got redirected right after that. Edit: my bad, it says 2002, apparently the site has not been updated in decades.. i felt left out being a 6k user.. |
