Disabling hardware microphone component in the zaurus 5600 Options

What would you consider easy? You could always open it up, carefully melt the solder that connects it and remove it that way.

Why exactly do you want to dissable it? Might help folks give better suggestions.

To bring the device into work it needs to meet specific security requirements. The microphone is a problem
Since I'm not an electronics expert nor do I have the tools, schematics etc to do this--I'm looking for information from anyone who has run into the same security problem and what resources did they use to overcome this obsticle :?:

This came up there several times and in terms of hardware, the Z is verysimilar to PPC's

Sadly, If memory serves, the only two solutions people were able to come up with were to remove the mic physicaly or to by a device with no mike, like a palm or ansl-5500

Seems you have a 2-stage problem:

1. disable the microphone
2. convince the spooks at your workplace that the microphone is disabled

The second step seems even more difficult to me than the first one, I mean: do you open your Z in front of them and show them the missing mic? Or do you run through the voice recording app and demonstrate it hasn't produced any output? The latter could be arranged without any hardware mods at all you know :grin:

If I was responsible for security policy and this was a serious issue I would simply ban all gadgets with a processor. There is no way to be dilligent unless you have an army of electronics engineers just to do the checking and sealing of devices...

Even more so, the " Tempest " element of radiating RF signals eminating from a classified area. Haven't checked a Z, however, imagine they put out a healthy signal.

As Zenyatta stated, were I responsible for Security (and I have been) it would be verboten (banned).
