sl-6000 usb camcorder Options

So i was fooling around with my zaurus and decided to plug the camcorder into it. When I looked in sysinfo it saw my sony camcorder as a device. So this made me curious as to whether I could use the zaurus as a capture device for video from the camera. Anyone have any ideas if this is possible??

I guess technically it is possible, but somebody would have to write the drivers/capture software.

And to capture dv video from a camcorder you will need a sustained 4mb/ps transfer rate which you will not get from a standard cf or sd card, stills are a possibility, but again somebody would have to write the software/drivers to achieve this.

I figured that drivers would be needed. Had no idea that dv video was 4mb transfer rate, I would run out of space real fast. However it still would be pretty cool.

I was able to download all the pictures from my camcorder. the zaurus recognized it in sysinfo as a sony memory stick which is where the pictures are kept.

I simply mounted it with:

mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstorage

I imagine this will work with any sony camera

How did you plug in your camera? Did you have gender changer?
I thought the usb for zaurus was a device and not a master on the usb bus.

Not mine!, maybe I misunderstood the question, I thought skoorb was trying to capture dv video to his zaurus, which is a 4mbytes/sec stream.

If it is simply a case of transfering jpgs (stills) and the camcorder presents itself as a mass storage device then it should work fine on a 6000.just like a digital still camera.

It would take a significantly faster machine to transfer dv quality moving video (what my Sony camcorder produces) and what the original poster implied he wanted to transfer from his camcorder (note camcorder, not camera)

Darien, This will only work with the 60000, no other zaurus has usb host.

incidentally, I have noticed that you can now get wifi webcams.

That would be well neat to see the ouput from a battery operated wireless webcam on a zaurus with a cf wifi card. Their resolution is much lower that the 720x400 29fps (ntsc) or 720 x 576 25fps (pal) that the dv camcorders produce. Well I guess it must be as 802.11b is only rated at 11mbits/sec.

I was originally talking about streaming to the zaurus. Doesn't seem that is possible without drivers etc. However it does work as a mass storage device for downloading pics from the memory stick.
