Very impressive- it really is like having a brand new Zaurus!
I've just followed the 2.6 kernel install instructions for the C3000 and install went without a hitch. So far I can see: 2.6 kernel - MASSIVE speed benefits over 2.4 running QT or pdaxrom - Whoo! Keyboard and touchscreen working fine wifi working fine all my files are still on my microdrive FAT partition suspend seems to be working fine and every bit as fast as under cacko !!!! This is alpha1 too! I'm impressed with just that. I haven't been able to test sound or video playback yet. The main problem now is that I'm totally new to GPE. I've read the FAQS and beginners guides over at http://gpe.handhelds.org/documentation.phtml but it hasn't helped me find a graphical file manager. I'm presuming the program i need is gpe-filemanager ? I've seen screenshots of GPE and they show a 'File Manager' app under the utilities menu but there is no such icon on my install and said binary isn't in my path either.Inserting CF cards mounts them OK, but I was hoping doing so would open this mystical missing graphical file manager- will i be able to get gpe-filemanager to auto-mount? The other big showstopper at the moment for me was ipkg.conf not being pre-configured- thats what I'm playing with now, hoping to get xmms and mplayer on. Looking good so far, anybody got cacko dual booting with this new OZ/GPE on a spitz? A HOWTO for that would be much appreciated! |

Flashing and after reboot, the error message i see :
"Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root gs on unknow-block(0,0)" I named the files as follow: zImage-2.6.15-spitz-20060320074320.bin => zImage.bin updater.sh.spitz => updater.sh opie-image-3.5.4.1-alpha1-spitz.rootfs.tar.gz => hdimage1.tgz bootstrap-image-3.5.4.1-alpha1-spitz.rootfs.tar.gz=> initrd.bin Test with bootstrap and without. Did I miss something ? Thank you for your help. |

Danbold: ipkg is already configured with feeds - you expected all stuff in /etc/ipkg.conf probably - look into /etc/ipkg/ too (we do not use crappy Sharp shell version of ipkg).
For filemanager install 'gpe-filemanager' with gpe-package (or cmdline ipkg). And we do not provide old xmms - you could try beepmp (if it works ok on 16bit screen) or gpe-nmf. We have mplayer-1.0pre7 in 3.5.4 feed. flavien: read C3000 installation guide on OpenZaurus website - section about flashing with 2.6 kernel. |

Think I've really borked ipkg now
I thought that maybe just the graphical package manager might be at fault so I opened a su terminal and did a ipkg update lots of errors about servers not being found, but wi-fi is working under the GPE web browser at least so I tried ipkg install gpe-filemanager as su but just got some errors so I had a look under /etc/ipkg where I have about six .conf files and I noticed that the addresses in most of them had a double / next to the string 'base' so I removed the extra forward slashes and tried ipkg update again but still just errors. Is there a good way to set my ipkg conf files up properly- is there only the one 3.5.4 feed at the moment? Why is gpe-filemanager not in a base install? Seems like an essential tool for the standard PDA user- surely its not too big? As I said in an earlier post, /media/hdd, the microdrive USB FAT partition, is still intact but nothing popped up when I conected my Z to the PC. Does OZ or GPE not support this yet? |

danbold: check you network configuration then - I'm able to do 'ipkg update;ipkg install SOMETHING" out-of-box on my c760. And '//' in feeds urls does not need to be changed to '/' to get it working.
Why gpe-filemenager is not in image? We created gpe-image to fit in <32M partitions but right - for c3x00 machines it should have more apps. We can change it in 3.5.4.1 images. 3.5.4.1 will not have separate feeds - I will rather add it's stuff to 3.5.4 feeds as I plan to do not support c7x0/3.5.4 after 3.5.4.1 release (c7x0/3.5.4.1 will be supported instead). About 'popping' - by default no USB drivers are loaded. Use 'Settings/USB settings' (or how it was called on GPE) to select which USB Client functionality you want to have enabled. Slight progress has been made with the package manager, but still I can't access most of the feeds- the one with the programs I need! I've tried looking on the OZ homepage and googling for "Openzaurus 3.5.4 feeds" but I've failed to find a description of what exactly all the ipkg feed config files should contain. I would've expected to find this info under the release notes maybe, but that only gives feeds for modules.
Is it true that the GPE package manager doesn't have a search feature yet?? Can't believe that! What is the ipkg equivalent of apt-cache search then? I only deleted a few '/'s from the config files and thankfully 2 of the feeds (base and updates) seem to be working now but the others give me 404's. I did a /sbin/ifup wlan0 to check i was connected before doing a ipkg update. Unforunately, those two feeds don't contain the vital pakages I need to use OZ, which are gpe-filemanger or rox abiword gnumeric xmms or beep media player mplayer or xine Is it possible to import data from the cacko calendar into the GPE one? Just for the cool factor, can I get amule 2.1.1 for OZ yet? Also, has anybody got zpsx running under OZ? Thanks for your help in converting me over to OZ- I'm willing to help write some OZ FAQs and docs when I'm up and running. |

danbold: heh.. my fault - just looked into spitz 3.5.4.1-alpha1 image
You need to change x11 feed to point into 3.5.4 instead of 3.5.4.1-alpha1 to get it working. Will be fixed in next test release. Also 'machine-upgrades' is not available and it will be not available before 3.5.4.1 release - we provide only kernel modules as extra packages (details in README). gpe-filemanager, mplayer, beepmp are in feed gnumeric, abiword are building rox is not in OE (I do not like the way it works so will not add it into OE - let some else fight with it) |

OK, the x11 feed is found now, but the gui package manager doesn't work. It just says
Failed to download (Packagename)- perhaps you need to run 'ipkg update'? but running ipkg update doesn't make any difference. Things work a bit better from the cli, but still non of the programs I have installed have worked because after downloading the packages it says ldconfig isn't available. Where can I get ldconfig? How long do you think it will be until abiword and gnumeric get built and uploaded to the feeds? I've got a CUPS network shared printer upstairs- I'm presuming I'll be able to print to that over the network? |

I have been unable to get my SD card working with 3.5.4.1 alpha1 on C1000. First, there is no /dev/mmcblk0p1 directory.
I created it with: mknod /dev/mmcblk0p1 b 60 1 Then, tried to mount with this result: root@akita:~# mount -t vfat /dev/mmcblk0p1 /media/card mount: Mounting /dev/mmcblk0p1 on /media/card failed: No such device or address Any ideas? OZ 3.5.4.1 alpha1 on Akita, Kingston 1gb SD |

Try ejecting the card and then re-inserting it.
See if the /dev entry is created automatically (as it should be). Si |

Tried ejecting the card and re-inserting, and tried a reboot with the card inserted. No luck. Anything else I could try? This same card has always worked with previous versions of OZ (I'm using gpe btw).
In addition, I can't get ipkg to work. I manually added feeds to ipkg.conf and to the ipkg directory. ipkg update results in: root@akita:/etc/ipkg# ipkg update ipkg_conf_init: Failed to create temporary directory `(null)': No such file or directory |

Try running ipkg update with -V (iirc) to make it more verbose.
Does dmesg/logread show that the card has been detected? Si |

I'm getting a kernel panic after it reboots following the kernel flash. I have repartitioned my internal RAM using pdaXrom's updater to 64/64. I partitioned the internal driver per the instructions on OpenZaurus for the 3100, except I added a swap partiion as a 4th partition.
error I'm getting is: CODE Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,1) First time this ocurred, I went back and formated partitions 1&2 as ext2 and partition 3 as dos, thinking that since I had repartitioned but hadn't formated them that was the problem. Instructions are silent on whether formatting is needed. Suggestions? |
