This hasn't been the only great news for Z-based browsing to be reported recently by linuxdevices - it turns out that ARM and Mozilla are beginning work on optimising Firefox for ARM devices
AND Adobe are working with ARM on a ARM-optimised Flash 9, one that isn't specific just to the N800 which already has Flash 9! http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8620895791.html |

I'm concerned by the lack of response and enthusiasm generated by the original post- surely its not just me and adf who'd like a fast, modern open source SDL based web browser on our Z'a? Or maybe we're the only ones not aware that its some way off stable operation yet?
Maybe I should've posted this to the General section instead? Feel free to move this thread mods! |

Well, last time I tried the webkit/core stuff, it crashed every 10 seconds or so, so I'm thinking it is a long way off. I didn't look into this too heavily mostly for that reason, somewhat because the source was large, and somewhat because it didn't look as though it compiled in one go (it appeared to need about 5 separate builds)
So I am interested, as can be seen by my latest Mozilla post, but still waiting for this stuff to mature. |

It would be nice if somebody with expertise and resources tries to build it... The source is not straightforward to acces, but here you go: http://www.sand-labs.org/owb/browser. Try also the section "Downloads", there's the src tarball.
Looking forward to see whether it works... |

It's not a straight build, either. You need to build some 3 or45 things in the source before you can build the browser, which takes a while.
EDIT: Oops...It's easier than I thought (whether all the stuff is available on the Z or not remains to be seen). I'll try it on my laptop now and report back... EDIT2: It compiled fairly easily, but when I ran it, I just got a black screen (and a few crashes), so I think it's a no-go for now. |

I've been away, but would have commented enthusiastically had I been around.
Minimo on Angstrom works suprisingly well, slow to start but once running is mostly OK, you do have to learn what NOT to do, and I can't make bookmarks work, but it renders pages quite nicely. Prior to that, when I ran Cacko, Opera was pretty much the best choice for a web browser, netfront was quick but somewhat basic. I did try Dillo which came on OpenZaurus but it was pretty dire, and was one of the reasons I dropped OZ. |
