Hay all,
As I am quite new here, and haven't even received my precious 5500, I need to ask another thing: I see that I may use the usb at the bottom to connect a bluetooth dongle. cool. So I may use it for WiFi and BT at the same time :-) 1. I see that there was a product named AIRCable which was discontinued according to their site. Googling I found this alternative anyone familier with them? 2. can't I just use any usb to bluetooth dongle? maybe one that has a open source driver and cross compile it to ARM? 3. may I use this set up to do VoIP ? |

that port on the bottom (called Sharp I/O) have RS-232 and USB Client.
AirCable is BT-over-RS232 thing so it works. You cannot connect USB devices to that port - it is for connecting Zaurus to USB Host (for example: desktop) |

Thanks Hrk,
I did read about the usb host thing , but didn't know about the rs232. That info makes it all more clear. so what I am lookin for is a rs232 to blutooth dongle. with a proper connector, ovcourse. So, where do I find such dongles these days? RS232 is so out now days.... also, what about using that bluetooth to establish a link to an headset and doing VoIP via WiFi? |

there are companies which make rs232->BT adapters but they are quite expensive (found one for ~80 EUR). then you also need sharp i/o connector (TCX 3106) which can be bought in US (forgot company name).

ok most bluetooth -> zaurus 5X00 are gone. got one email suggesting 100$ for the dongle +shipping (20$ to the states)
Is it worth so much? I did buy the zaurus with VoIP in mind, but is it rediales to pay 160$ for the zaurus, and 160$ more fothe BT. so I am back to making a dongle. connectors are expensive, but a cradle goes for 10$ at ebay (10$ shipping). I did find a 40 euro serial bluetooth chip40 euro recken I got get away with a 50- 60$ for it , and still have an extra power charger. still expensive :-( however, I didn't find a mention that this chip is supported. the c11 chip (same manufactor) does appear in the bluez support list. will it work? |
