Since SL-6000 has USB host, is that possible to attach USB DVD?

I was wondering the same thing. I believe it would be possible since it would just show up as a mass storage device which should already have drivers... but then again, I'm probably wrong. I intend on getting an SL-6000 when it is available and trying this as one of my first projects. I'll let you know my success/failures when it happens.
Note: It'll only show up as read-only I'm sure since reading is more of a generic thing but if it's a DVD-RW or CD-RW I don't believe it would be possible although the drive should still show up for reading. Well, it could be possible if the manufacturer released some drivers for it (hah, right) or if some developers released generic writing drivers (which I don't know is possible). |

It is good if I can connect it to my pocket HDD 40GB.
I store a lot music and video there. Hope I can direct play them via USB. |

So only the USB devices which meet OTG compliance can be connected.

The I/O bus on an embedded processor likely couldn't keep up with USB 2.0. For the same reason they use 802.11b rather than g. Anyway, all 2.0 devices are compatible with 1.1 host controllers, so there shouldn't be a problem using your drive.

Im a bit confused - is it possible to plug a camera directly into the zaurus somehow? I see that cable at http://www.serialio.com/info/zaurus allows you to plug the zaurus into a USB port - just like my camera does, but is there a way to bridge the two together without having a PC in the middle? Would a USB hub do the trick? Or is there way to plug the camera directly into the zaurus?

I plugged my Magicvision USB camera into the Z using the cable being discussed in the "USB Cable" topic. The Z "saw" it as shown in dmesg. Unfortunately, no active driver. That doesn't shock me as I don't believe this camera works even under Red Hat. Maybe you will have better fortune.

According to this: http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelDeta...1,1255-,00.html the connector at the bottom of the Zaurus SL-6000 is a "USB 1.1 host connector (mini type A)". I believe the dock has a mini-B connector which means it looks like a peripheral and must plug into a host (like a PC - which makes sense). I will send email to serialio.com to inform them that their diagram is wrong (i.e. its *NOT* USB OTG). Unless it is me that is wrong ... oh never mind :-) Cheers! Murray... |

Just received my Archos ArkDisk 20G HDD tonight. Plugged into Z, mount /dev/sda1 and viola.... 20G of storage without external power!!!
First snag I hit is when I try to back up my 256M SD into the drive(by cp -R) and it hanged the Z. Don;t want to ocerload the Z, I hooked up the hard drive to my PC and copy the disk through a card reader. It gave me a lot of errors and keeps on crashing. So the culprit might be the crappy 256M Sandisk SD card I have instead of HDD. So the disk is still awaitng further test but I am very encouraged by what I saw tonight. FW |
