I'm getting the itch to mess around with some other distros out there for my c3100 but I do not want to lose the exact setup I have now. I am using the original sharp rom heavily customized to exactly my needs. So I want to know what you guys out there recomend to do to back it up so that if I want to go back to it I can restore it completely as if nothing had happened.
I am thinking first of all to go into the D+M menu and use the tool in there to backup the internal 4gig drive onto an external 8gig cf I have...then do a NAND backup. But that leaves the actual installed and currently running os in flash...how do I back that up? A NAND is just a backup of the original rom as if I reformated back to factory defaults right? Or does it backup EVERYTHING? Or, can I just dd the whole thing onto my f card? But that leaves the trouble of how do I restore it. Thanks for any help...I hope to eventually get a dual boot setup so I can have a more modern os on my zaurus for doing certain things and then still be able to go back to my old sharp rom for the japanese/pim/music stuff I have come to love on the zaurus. |

It looks like a NAND backup copies everything except the internal hard disk. Is that right? If so then all I need to do is backup the NAND and the internal hard drive and that would work?

Not sure if C3100 nand backup is the same, but back when I tried Guylhem's SL-6000L ROM, his nand image completely overwrote the factory internal nand ROM image, including changing the partition sizes. (Don't know if this helps or not.)

If you do a NAND backup, and dd your microdrive somewhere (tarring it up may work as well, so long as you preserve permissions), you'll be good to go.

So that looks cool. I just hope it restors properly |

dang, i tried to restore my nand but it keeps saying "format error". what could cause this? i ended up downloading a different nand online and it worked. but then i tried uboot again and it failed again. now even the nand i downloaded gives that same "format error". so is my original nand backup useless and i lost everything?
also, why would the downloaded nand work once but not the next time? and, whats up with uboot? every time i flashed it my z becomes "dead". i can sometimes manage to get to the emergency console but it doesnt come up most of the time. and no matter what i do uboot doesnt do anything or come up at all. |

Does the NAND backup you're trying to restore have uBoot installed (did you have uBoot when you made the backup)?
