Change That Alarm To Something Else, Annoying! Options

If anyone uses the alarms in the calendar knows...the alarm is weak! I searched high and low to find the wav file or whatever so i can rename/delete and replace with whatever i want.

I havnt found the place for that yet, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, please let me know. Its downright annoying if you ask me

The best way to get around it is to install the kde pim pi apps. They allow for custom sounds. The sharp app alarm sound is built into the kernel. There is no way to get around it.

Or you might like to try Qualendar:

which is a big step-up from the built-in calendar and also able to play different alarm sounds. (works in English or Japanese)

I have tried ko/pi in many forms on both desktop and Z and although I'm impressed with its sophistication I feel it's become bloated and slow. What I like about Qualendar is that it's as fast or faster than the built in calendar but with more (and more useful) features such as keyboard shortcuts and a nice week-to-a-view. I believe Qualendar is build on the same structure as the built in datebook so it should be just as robust. A happy compromise.

[a small issue exists with Qualendar on the C3000 at the moment involving syncing, but since I use my Z as a stand-alone PIM I don't care. I'm sure ichitokumei, the author, will sort the problem shortly.]

Just lookin at that last link, all I should have to install for a standalone PIM would be the main program and the alarm plugin...correct? The rest of the stuff is for syncing...

Qualendar has come a long way since I last looked at it. In fact I'm switching to that now. It's really fast, is totally compatible with the Sharp PIM data and hence syncing, combines todo with the calendar, tons of settings and shortcuts, advanced filtering, repeating exceptions, and the ability to change the alarm sound for all events of course

Yes that should be all you need to start with.

While I'm personally using Qualendar for my calendar and todo functions I do like KAddressBook as an addressbook that can work standalone from the rest of KDE/PIM.


BTW, especially for tumnus, I've just found info on getting Qualendar to automatically download and update the daily weather icons in the calendar based on a yahoo weather forecast. Sounds fun. It's in Japanese but seems pretty self-explanatory. Maybe I'll give it a go sometime soon:

I just tried the Qualendar (0.8.10) and I'm having some problems. I tried it on both my SL5600 and my SL6000. When I try to tap Special Settings it gives me a white screen and then returns back to the calendar view - no other dialog is started?

It also has a series of blocks displayed in the week view next to the date 2/11/05 (and it has it colored with a pink background? Same thing for 3/21. Are these holidays?

Looks like it might have some potential but I'm switching back to the Sharp verson for now - I don't want to mess up my calendars.

Using qualendar too. An excellent application. I'm playing a bit with a desktop version at the moment - a pleasure to use. Tell me if you are running sarge and want it :-)

Qualendar only misses very little improvements to be better than kopi IMHO.

PS: regarding the squares on pink bg, that may be because you don't have a non japaneese holidays.txt file. Add one with your local vacations

Hmmm....I will have to look into this as I have not seen it for a while. It would be nice if I could keep my work calendar (outlook) and personal calendar (korganizer) in separate apps syncing separately.

I am quite happy using KO/Pi - it does everything and it stores it all as an ical file, great for moving around.

I loaded Qalendar and it came up in Japanese. So what did I do wrong?

I also have a problem with Korganizer. I have load the alarm daemon and with Korganizer but I don't see an alarm applet anywhere, just the KO/PI icon. Any help or suggestions??
