I started a section of the wiki specifically for streaming, especially to include the more popular streams such as classicFMuk.
Perhaps people could add their favourite streams to it in the form of playlists... you have to register on the wiki separately to edit it; if you're not sure I am happy to update it with any submissions in this discussion thread.
http://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Streaming

note, we don't need fo include shoutcast streams as they can be saved to file and played witrhout fixing, I am hoping for submissions which are of streams which can't be directly accessed through the Z's webbrowser, hence my e.g. of classicfmuk.

if this proves popular we could create an IPK of playlists (.pls) for easy updating. They do similar things for xbox media centre.

well, I am puzzled by Kino2 and its handling of playlists.

Here's the working stream file of ClassicFMUK.pls:
QUOTE
[playlist]
numberofentries=1
File1=http://81.20.48.50/classicfm?MSWMExt=.asf
Title1="ClassicFM UK"
Length1=-1

After careful extraction, I found the stream name of CNNRadio; here's my CNNRadio.pls file:
QUOTE
[playlist]
numberofentries=1
File1=mms://wmscnnlive.stream.aol.com/live/cnn/cnn_radio
Title1=CNNRadio
Length1=-1

I can play CNNRadio stream by invoking mplayer at the command shell, thus (as user zaurus):
$ mplayer mms://wmscnnlive.stream.aol.com/live/cnn/cnn_radio

but kino2 won't play the playlist!

ah, now, if I put the url mms:// into kino's "open url" dialog, it doesn't do anything, and then when do open url again the dialog box has mangled the URL into /hdd3/Documents/Stream_Files/mms:/wmscnn - etc... So, it must be a bug in Kino2 not understanding the mms:// type of URL. Anyone know of a fix?

Paul

I didn't know there was a specific shoutcast client for Z... yes please, could you update the wiki page I started with brief instructions or post here and I will do the edits?

I was using kino2 to play stream definitions in playlist files... it will play the .pls files saved from the www.shoutcast.com, so if that'll work round the kino2 bug, it'd be great!

thanks!

I did a google and found some install instructions at this rather useful page: http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/zps_cacko/
doesn't seem trivial, but doesn't seem scary either.

hmm....

I remember you now...you recently purchased a c-3100. Congrats

well. If you are using the stock rom, i recommend you install the stuff from this file. it has some neet stuff. do not use the backup and restore since its for the c-3200. if you are using the cacko, some of the files will be usefull.

i dont have too much time for updating the wiki.

Look under shoutcast in one of the folders. for all the files needed to get the shoutcast running and also read the instructions to get it into english. it is very very easy.

There is so much you can do its not funny. when i am on the road, i bluetooth to my cellphone and listen to streaming audio through the phone into my z from the internet shoutcast. It is just so cool. I have enough bandwith to browse net and chat in gaim through pdaxqtrom from meanies collection.

got it working now... yes, easy to install. Not small though - a good 1.8MB just for Ruby, let alone the actual application! For those who haven't tried it, it's a browser/search tool for the shoutcast website, grouping by the same categories and allowing you to enter search terms. It shows name of stream, bit rate etc.

-- edit --
so, just a more efficient way of getting to the streams than browsing www.shoutcast.com with Opera and saving the playlists to somewhere that Kino2 can open them.
