I see that Korganiser and Kommander (a KDE file manager) have been ported to the microkde libs/ Qtopia so why not KWord and kSpread? Can microkde not handle these?
If no-one is going to step up to this then we should take action. Maybe we could petition Sharp to pull their weight and sponsor such a project? One of the most common (the #1?) criticisms of the Zaurus lies within Hancom offices many shortcomings, basic things like proper 'Save As' functions and a spell checker. Sharp would be freeing themselves of having to continue to license Hancom office, bestow and great gift upon existing users, very likely sell more Zaurii and get some good PR in the process - everyone wins! If Sharp aren't convined (?) then we need to to find an experienced QT coder or 5 who'd be willing to give it a shot. Maybe we could set up a fund for both programs to which Z users could donate to, bounties could be set. I know there is Textmaker but the demo failed to install/run properly on my C3000 and its commercial software. Textmaker looks like it could be very good but I'd much rather see a fully featured, GPL word processor and spreadsheet for the Z, wouldn't you? Maybe I should post this on the koffice mailing list too? dan PS I presume that if something is wrote for Qtopia it can be easily run (or compiled to run) under OZ? |

All these mini kde libraries are a actually a joke. They're hardly anything more than shells to make some kde 2.x applications compile against qt/e. The functionality is missing though. In 2003 I ported a bunch of interesting classes from kdeui3 to Qt/Embedded in the light of Opie switching to Qt/E 3.x soon. Alas this didn't happen and so my port rotted in the Opie cvs

now it can run kde on Zaurus. |
