QUOTE(pelon @ Dec 29 2004, 09:08 PM) I've created a HOWTO on restoring a C3000 from scratch. Other than hardware problems, there should never be a need to send it back for reflashing. I hope it helps. I can't thank you enough for this precious information!! Yesterday my Zaurus SL-C3000 was an overpriced paperweight getting dusted somewhere in my closet, nobody was interested in buying it from me. In 24h I've got wlan-connection working. The next thing was to get Zaurus in to the condition it was in the beginning. This took hours, because I've tried every possible ROM/OS version. With the help on your page, I got trough it. I can add one thing that took hours to overcome: I could not get CF card to work with the NAND restore. It worked fine with my SD card but _only after I'd formated the card into FAT_ (FAT32 not working). Hope someone can find this usefull in the future. Keep up the good work! -Mersault- |

Just do what everyone else did and learn Japanese so you can use your Zaurus Seriously, all you need to do is to change the locale to en instead of ja All the new clamshell models are only available in Japanese and only sold by Sharp in Japan. You would need to convert the C3200 just like you would with a C3100 or earlier models. Some companies outside of japan convert them for you but that's like a 5 minute job. |

Hi, I've been doing research on here & the net about Zaurus, bought my C3100 in March in Tokyo (PC Bomber 59800 Yen).
Question is - what's the password for zaurus user and root user? I've searched and searched and couldn't find anything! (I can read Japanese and prefer to stay w/ the original Sharp ROM right now, I'm relatively new to Linux so I am afraid of messing things up.) Thanks! |

There is no password by default unless you set up the zaurus security. In that case the root password will be that 4 digit number you used.

QUOTE(Zaurus_Support @ Nov 30 2004, 01:09 AM) There is a backup for the hard drive in the diagnostic menu. I recommend using this to reconstruct and not the dd command. Make sure to mkfs on those partitions if you repartion. I understand this isn't needed with dd, but it can help. hda1 and hda2 are ext3 and hda3 is vfat. As well, the drives are as follows (1k blocks): /dev/hda1 99521 /dev/hda2 398282 /dev/hda3 3478852 ... Zaurus_Support: Could you please edit the first posting in this thread to include this information and could you also explain how to apply this info to fdisk. I recently used these figures to re-partition my c3000 MD but I'm not sure I did it correctly. When fdisk asked me to input the size of partition 1 I entered +99521K Is that right or should I have entered just +99521 ?? My installation of cacko failed with a HDD error after doing that, probably because I didn't format the partitions as I thought the cacko installer would do this? I got cacko working again by using the mystical recovery procedure listed in the c3000 pdaxromb2 thread which I've Anton will be adding to his Cacko docs soon. |
