I think it is about time we do a general cleanup of the forums. Some of the forums here are not used anymore since many years, for various reasons (shrinking community, ROMs/distros not being used anymore...). I'm sure most of you will be now tired of reading on the front page about Omicron's Linux solution, the gizmoforyou.com website and that Portabase was put on Kickstarter smile.gif

My idea is to create a new forum called "Archived forums", where all the unused forums would be moved to, while still regaining the original forums structure; for example, Distros, Development, and Model Specific Forums->Everything Development->Python would end up in Archived forums->Distros, Development, and Model Specific Forums->Everything Development->Python, and so on. All the archived forums and posts will be still readable and writable, so it will be still possible to open new threads there as with the other forums. In case one or more of them will become again popular in the future, we can move them out of the archived section.

Since this will be a major update, I'll make a backup of both the forum's files and the database before starting the cleanup, so that in case something goes wrong I can quickly put back the forum online. This is my proposed list of the forums to be archived:

Desktop Operating Systems Issues (all of it)

Everything Development:
Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile

Model Specific Forums:
Archos forum
Asus Eee PC
iPAQ Forum
Nokia Tablet
SIMpad forum
Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker

Distro Support and Discussion:
Guylhem Rom

Regional User Groups (all of it)

And this is what would remain in the main sections:
General Support and Discussion (all)

Everything Development:
User Request for Applications, OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia, Qt/Qtopia, pdaXrom Development, X/Qt, Open Embedded, Linux Applications

Model Specific Forums:
5x00 General discussions, 5x00 Hardware, 6000 - Tosa, Cxx0 General discussions, Cxx0 Hardware, C1000/3x00 General discussions, C1000/3x00 Hardware, GPD Devices

Distro Support and Discussion:
Angstrom & OpenZaurus, Arch Linux ARM, pdaXrom, OpenBSD, Sharp ROMs

Embedded Linux Hardware / Software Index (all)

OESF Wiki (all)

Site Specific Forums (all)

Any comment or suggestion? I'll wait for a week for any feedback before proceeding.

The user Snarf from the #zaurusfr IRC channel has kindly mirrored all the contents of the feed.zaurusfr.org here:

Both the feed on zaurusfr and this mirror are the only feeds hosting all the files for OpenZaurus and the Cackophonie files (an updated archive of Cacko stuff), plus some archives taken from various websites, for archival purposes.

Thanks Snarf!

is anybody in touch with the owner of the feed on http://feed.zaurusfr.org ? I'm trying to contact him for a mirror of (at least) the OpenZaurus feed, plus anything hosted there that can't be found anywhere else on the net. I have tried to ask on the #zaurusfr channel (which is btw still used by a couple of users), but with no avail. Whois reports that it is owned by Francois Lecluse, I have tried to write a message to the listed email but it bounced back.

An interesting new device has been shown at the last CES last January, the Graalphone:

Too bad it's still only a concept, and no deal has been announced yet for a production run. Thanks to greguu for the heads up!

It's a 7 inch laptop, using an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 Cherry Trail processor, with support for Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04 Linux. Unlike the GPD Win, Linux support might be then officially supported for this device.

"The system is said to be slightly larger than the GPD Win, and it has an aluminum chassis. (..) According to ton-chi-ki, GPD plans to launch an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the GPD Pocket in February."
