I have heard this discussed before around these forums, plus there are quite a few posts lately on X/QT so I feel it is now a good time to check the opinion of the other ZUG users, with a view to making a formal request.

Could you please link to the posts? I'm not quite certain what the poll is about. Thanks.

Hi zenyatta - X/QT is an X server that runs under qtopia and so it allows you to run x applications such as XMMS. The idea is that you can compile / run programs that require an X-server for display purposes. The reason for the poll is that some people desire a single place to place all discussions about this project.
There are forums for sharp / oz / x11 roms so there should probably be one for this project. xqt.sourceforge.jp |

Yes, I support this, a new forum for X/Qt would be good, but I'm not aware of any input on ZUG by the X/Qt developer(s). X/Qt would need some more libraries ported and visibly more active development to be a real alternative to pdaXrom for Qtopia users. I want but can't see just yet (or any time soon) a merging of Cacko QT and pdaXrom, so for now, if we (Qtopia users) want X, X/Qt is the only way to proceed.
I think a X/Qt thread (if the developers were on board) would be a good thing, diversity and choice are king in the land of the Z. I'd also like to see in the forum a list of working apps (including pdaXrom ones) under X/Qt. (and a SDK) Zenyatta, I don't know if X/Qt works on a 5500, maybe someone could verify this. I'm sure the GIMP I use from pdaXrom wont work though as it's for Xscale architecture. |

Hey padishah_emperor - I intend to maintain a list of all the applications that work... I'm currently extracting the pdaxrom tarball on my Z as i write this, and if i have success getting the main libraries needed for many X applications I will package and release these for people.

At the moment i am manually linking loads of libraries... yawn!
I hope it works in the end though. |

Yeah, the SL-C folks have kind of taken X and run away with it, it seems to me. Shame it hurts Qtopia-based development but I guess if the machines can handle it, good for them (and their owners...).
I'm working on porting a desktop Python/Qt app to the Zaurus and, as for the 5500, lots of UI changes are necessary. I don't think X/Qt would be of much benefit on a 5500 even if it could be made to run. The pixels are just not there :-( z. |

I've created a new X/QT forum under the Everything Development category. I will start searching for X/QT relevant topics to move to this new forum.
If you would like to help, please post a quick note in any topic/thead that should be moved with a simple note like "move to X/QT forum". This way the admins can move the topic, and delete your "move me" post. Thanks! offroadgeek |
