Thanks You May not be the answer you desired, but you _can_ do VoIP on the Zaurus very well using KPhone/PI and a sipgate account. KPhone/PI is not compatible with Skype, though, because Skype uses a proprietary protocol, not SIP. instead of sipgate, you can probably use every VoIP provider who uses SIP. Performance is good enough on the SL-C3000. If no other ressource-intensive program runs, and if you do not do anything in the QTopia GUI during your call, the call will not be interrupted or disturbed. I do not know if the performance of the slower Zaurus machines is sufficient, though. daniel |

QUOTE(sylpil @ Sep 18 2005, 06:31 AM) Skype exists for Linux (SuSe, Fedora, Mandrake, and Debian). Is it possible to install Skype on Zaurus? this has been discussed here a few times - search for skype. anyway, sadly, no... there's a forum at skype about it: http://forum.skype.com//viewtopic.php?t=40...d9e8194ee93af51 and there's a petition at http://www.publicmind.com/enduser/group.jsp?node=1669 (seems to be down at present) lpotter has hinted that trolltech have discussed this with skype, but no other information is available there are a few issues, here's those I can remember... 1) are there enough Z users who'd use Skype? ... maybe not outside Japan, I don't know if there are enough Z's in Japan to make Skype interested. 2) are Skype willing to recode their application into qtopia-2 & qt-embedded-2.3.x from qt-3? 3) does the Zaurus have sufficient processing power ...with the stock sharp rom, i.e. without special kernel, without overclocking 4) does the Zaurus have enough memory 5) would Skype have to buy more trolltech licenses and would it be worth their while? If you had about US$25000, you could probably sponsor Skype to do it. Paul |

seems like publicmind website is gone forever
I wonder if we could organise a pledge... and ask Skype how much to do it... if they then sell the product e.g. to Motorola who run qt/e, they'd have to refund us.. or maybe it'd be community property and they'd have to split the profits with OESF plus Cacko, OZ, pdaXrom? |

kp/pi is very memory hungry.. be sure to close all other apps, and turn off quick start (tap/hold each icon and uncheck quick start - or whatever its called) for all apps e.g. the PIM and calendar amongst others.
