Hi,

I was just about to go to sleep, when I clicked "refresh" on the forum page
and saw the RC11 announcement. Needless to say, I grabbed it (twice -
incorrect MD5sum the first time) and installed it. I figured I'd post, to let folks
know that it did not brick my device, etc. smile.gif

I noticed that the power button suspends/resumes OK, mixmos appears to run,
but I have not yet attempted to do much more. I can provide an update later
if folks are interested.

Many thanks for this RC11 ROM and *feed* !!!

John

I'm very interested in hearing more about people's experience with RC11 on the 6k.

If the wifi and power management don't have any bugs, I may try it out.

Everyone that's installed RC11 on a 6k please post your experiences.

SD card issue

I just let sashz ssh into my SL-6000, and he noticed the
cause of the issue, fixed it on my Z, and said he would update
the forum with the fix instructions.

The issue appears to be the lack of hotplug...

I should also mention that WIFI is working well, although I took
the easy route and temporarily disabled WEP and enabled SSID
broadcast on my AP, until I get around to crafting the config files later.

Unfortunately the new release for the 6k brings about as many bugs as it does fixes =(. The SD card wont work out of the box but can be fixed very easy(see above). There is reports that the wifi works with the wifi setup and also reports that it doesn't. i havent gotten it to work myself. I goto the command line and with some simple 3-4 line bash scripts i can connect to any wifi pretty quick. I have had some problems with rc11 when start/stopping wlan in which i had to reboot but i could have mistyped something... i'll post more if i track down the source.
[prism2dl: warning: Failed to find PDR for plugrec 0x0406
0x0302
0x0303
412
414

Failed to enable the device, resultcode= implementation_failure]
anyone else get that before?

Also, on rc11 it'll freeze if you change the time and suspend/resume (=( the right time is kinda important..) Also, i haven't found a way to right click in rc11.. seems that broke somewhere along the way as well...

so.. time will tell.. after these issues get fixed i'm very anxious to see the new improvements in rc11, new soft, etc...
As for now, stick with rc10 as its much more stable and just use wifi from the command line. It's a fantastic rom.. i suggest checking it out.

I'll give it a test this weekend, probably.
In the meantime, though:
I don't mind having to use a short script to start wireless...
The right-click and date issues sound more threatening. Are these confirmed, repeatable problems for several 6k owners, or possibly just a bit of bad luck for takuan?
Takuan, how did you install? Over a "virgin" sharp? over a guylhem flash? have you flashed several times from several images to be sure it isn't some obscure flashing issue? Sorry to belabor the obvious.

Anyone looked at a usb keyboard yet? are the keymaps ok?
Does xrandr actually r AND r? or just r(otate)? (tiny games in little postage stamp boxes in the middle of my screen aren't much fun) is the X-server actually faster?
I don't mean to denigrate the excellent work done on pdax- just checking to see what basic functional stuff has changed on the 6k from rc 10.

side note: Is there a fast loading ssl capable graphical browser (like maybe an embedded konqueror or netfront --I know opera doesn't work) for pdax? A dillo that did ssl would be terrific. I ask because I need to do ssl for web based apps at work. Firefox does nicely but loads slow, and dillo doesn't ssl. A light ssl gui browser would be handy (though by no means is its lack a show-stopper)

Thanks!

btw... does anyone have xirkd source? I might be able to get some help in making it work for the belkin keyboards.

edit: since getting wireless to start properly from a gui seems to be a pain on the 6k (qtopia 2.1 has the same problem, and guylhem had to write a new applet) might simply attaching the requisite bash scripts to menu items on the 6k image be a suitable solution? It is less than perfect, but at least you wouldn't have to keep posting caveats about something that is a simple fix...

yea, i'd like to hear if other people are having the same problem. i'm an experienced rc10 user and i reflashed it twice with the same problems both times so i dont think its a flashing error. As for SSL.. it would be cool to get stunnel ported so ppl as its very useful for mail clients that don't support SSL (slypheed doesnt work with gmail, kopiemail, etc..) I wonder if stunnel would give SSL to dillo as well. (thatd be cool)

I know of an OESF member who wrote to the authors email addresses here:
http://www.cs.umb.edu/~woodbj/zaurus/xirkd/
but supposedly did not get a reply.

But why look at the source? Should not producing a new map with keycodes for the Belkin using
$ xev
be enough? I would have given it a shot on my Pocketop time permitting...
Please report any progress on the Belkin if you decide to give it a try :-).

I had asked kopsis about that. He said that the belkin puts out a lot of bad ir data (my words, I'm sure he gave a clearer picture) and essentially that some filtering in addition to the keymap mod was necessary for IRK-belkin. Since his stuff works and he has tackled this same problem with irk, I'm inclined to believe him. I had emailed the xirkd devs at addresses given on the xird page, with no reply also

i have been running rc11 on 6000L since yesterday and my take so far:

1. wireless works exactly like it did in rc10 - by starting it manually or by scripts as mentioned in this forum somewhere.
2. most applications (i install all on SD) just worked from the earlier install after i installed libstdcxx from the rc10 feed. this includes portabase, opie-reader, kapi, abiword, gpsdrive (i havent tested with putting in the gps card yet). had to re-install gnumeric.
3. xfce installed and worked flawlessly - the earlier problem of the panel vanishing after installing the panel menu ipk was not present anymore.
4. the new ver of dillo seems to have increased speed.
5. in rc10 i was forced to run 1.9.5 kdepim as the newer version (2.1.17) wouldnt run. somehow rc11 has fixed that so now i am on 2.1.17
6. suspend/resume via power button seems to works but 5-6 times out of ten, a terminal window, if open when machine was suspended, gets killed upon resume. other than this havent seen any problem with suspend resume.
7. light and power management settings actually work.
8. date & time settings are retained on shutdown/reboot. i had this behaving erratically in rc10.

i have just installed xfe a few minutes ago and great to see an uncomplicated interface file manager. highly recommended.

bottomline, the only thing i have found that works in rc10 and doesnt work in rc11 is the unpredictable closure of terminal window upon resume.

one big gotcha is the ipkg feed entry in ipkg.conf file. if you issue a ipkg upgrade command then all kinds of strange things will happen - i had to reflash. dont know which feeds to put in other than the rc11 SL6000 feed. anybody know?

of course, would have loved to see all the other buttons work, wireless via gui etc.

general observation - seems to be more responsive but time to resume fully has varied from 1-2 sec to 5-6 sec with the same apps running. i have portabase, kapi, xffm (now xfe) and a terminal always open,

havent tried multimedia and usb host functions. when i get home tonight...

cheers

/bazmi.
