This is probably the stupidest question to be asked on this board, but here goes: are the c1000/c3000 machines "instant on" like a Palm OS PDA, or do they have a significant boot lag like WinXP?

As long as you don't hard reset them, then yes they are instant on. Technically they are never off, unless you yank the battery.

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't call this exactly "instant on". Whenever you switch ON the Zaurus, it needs something like two seconds to resume normal (running) state. That's nothing when compared to some OS (XP comes to mind), but it's still a (little) bit slower then, say, PalmOS or PPC. |

But it's true that it takes much longer for the Zaurus to boot. By chance, having to reset your Zaurus is quite rare.

Thanks for the clarifications, everyone. Two seconds (heck, even five) is definitely closer to the Palm than to the XP.
