One application that I'm really looking for is a wireless lan utility. It just needs to be able to show detected wifi signals, show ssid, whether it's encrypted or not. Doesn't need to have fancy logging or sniffing capabilities, just something simple that works. Discoverer 0.05-pre-alpha came with my Akita that I bought, but it doesn't work with my wifi card (Symbol LA-4137), for whatever reason. Wellenreiter II works, but doesn't show me ssid's for some reason, and it only seems to detect my own AP and not others. So I tried looking around for others and saw an Opie Stumbler, but it required so many dependencies that I couldn't find all of them.
Another app I'm looking for is an mp3 player that can is easy to use while in portrait mode (no access to the keyboard) ala an iPod-style UI. Does something like this even exist? Are there any decent cacko feeds out there that I don't have already that might help me find other apps to try/use? I currently have the cacko.biz feed, bryandeluca feed, and web.mol.ru feed. Many thanks |

Wellenreiter from the cacko feed works perfectly.
WRT the MP3 player, can't you just use the stock player in Cacko and rotate the screen?? |

ok this is strange, wellenreiter WAS working just fine. I tried it later tonight and nothing happens when I tap the icon. So I tried reinstalling some of the components and the other versions of wellenreiter with no real success. opie-wellenreiter 1.0.2 no longer works for me. If I try to start it from the command line it tells me: "wellenreiter: error while loading shared libraries: wellenreiter: undefined symbol: _120Application._instance." However, if I install the opie-wellenreiter 1.2.2-r0 from the sharpromfeed, it runs, but when I try to go to Sniffer->Configure, the app just crashes and disappears. Any ideas?
Edit: I tried installing "wellenreiter" from the package list, whose version is also 1.0.2, and tried running it. However it just "ejects" my wifi card and says that a card is then inserted as "Anonymous memory" and then the hourglass disappears. |

Mine's fine with 1.0.2.....I just checked the version.
After installing wellenreiter from the cacko feed I had to reboot the Zaurus to enable smooth operation of Wellenreiter. My notes say that I should be as root when using wellenreiter (I don't think this is necessary though), though I believe that's the default when using cacko anyway. I don't believe there are any dependencies for wellenreiter that aren't already included in cacko heavy....light may be a different matter. Even now, for unknown reasons, it sometimes takes maybe 5 seconds to load WR OK. Sometimes it only takes about 2 seconds. |

I just think that maybe some library or something got screwed up during my package installation/removal frenzy while trying out different applications. I've given up on the wireless AP finding thing for now. On another note, I'm looking for a decent GUI-based IRC and FTP client, do you have any recommendations? For FTP I tried opieftp, but I noticed it can't handle changing to directories that have strange characters in them (e.g. »). |

Now if I could just get wellenreiter to work again. Opie-wellenreiter 1.2.2-r0 one runs, but crashes when I click Configure or Start in the Sniffer menu. Wellenreiter-1.0.2 from the web.mol.ru cacko feed seems to start to work when ran from the command line as it goes through some steps that are debugged to the console window, but it too crashes with the Application instance error I noted in my second post. I tried rebooting the Z as deluxe suggested, but I'm still getting the same error(s). Has anyone seen this error or can recommend something that might remedy it? |
