for that kind of money, I could afford a ultraportable Laptop.
$1800 is an obscene amount of money for running Windows XP on a small footprint device. I cant believe that adding Bluetooth, Wifi, a solo core chip (if not some other equally performing one), more RAM, ROM etc will make the Zaurus double expensive than what it is now. (and we dont need Windows XP and its license costs to be added unessecarily) So how come these device mfrs make these ultraportables so expensive just to provide the capacity to run a full-blown XP on it. gr8ful, where di you find that it runs Linux too ? |

This device is very cool. It is not for people having trouble with there bank account every beginning of the month
 . Would love to see and test one. It should definitively be compared with an OQO instead of a Zaurus, even if it has the same battery life as a SL-700. ;-)It's the best UPC available out there I guess. It is small enough for most common use. Just not enough for your pocket... put we are not there yet, are we? |

It's not really that much bigger than a Z clamshell: Sony ---> 150.2 x 95 x 32.2 mm Zaurus -> 124 x 87 x 25 Won't fit the shirt pocket but will the pants pocket. A bit heavy though (520g, 1.23 lbs). |

The OQO is around 420g and I find it damn heavy to hold with just one hand for a longer period. Now 520g would be like holding a heavy brick. I always thought the OQO sucked because it was heavier than the Z. |

Pure surmising on my part, but I wonder if this might provide Sharp with the necessary spur to produce the Zaurus that we all wish for.
They could probably afford to sell it for a darn sight less than the Sony. Just found this cool Japanese interactive page showing GPS capability and much more. It is a backpacker for sure and I read that it had a 5 second start time. I assume that it's from a suspend.
This is not a zaurus replacement because it is not instant on or small and light. Would it be able to wake-up and remind you of your next meeting? I guess with some tweaking it might. Might this take away some zaurus users? You bet. There are a lot less compromises on the operating system and hardware, but it is a much easier to carry than a even and ultra portable laptop. I wonder what heat issues that might arise. |
