Well, I thought I could figure this out, but I guess I can't. I'm trying to restore the Sharp ROM (OZ installed now). I've read all the posts here, but I can't get my Zaurus 6000L to flash. Here's what I did. First, I ran fdisk to format the CF. I formatted it with one partition, defaults for start and stop cylinder. I set the type to FAT16 (0x06). I wrote the table and exited. Next I ran mkdosfs on the CF. Next I copied all files from SL6000L-US-1.12.zip (ffffffff.bin initrd.bin mainte.bin nanddiag.bin updater.pro initfs.bin initrd.gz mversion.bin paraminf.bin zImage.bin) to the CF. I moved the CF to the Zaurus. I reset (amber light goes on) and then hit power while holding down Q and T. The Zaurus boots OZ. I also tried reset, power with OK. Then I select CF under Update. It boots OZ. With this procedure I get the message "/mnt/cf/update.sh not found". I can't find that file. I suspect that the message is coming from OZ anyway. With the Q-T procedure, OZ starts booting so quickly that I can't read any error messages. At http://www.externe.net/zaurus/flash/ there is a README.txt. It says that one can flash a kernel with the files updater.sh, consolescroll.sh, and zImage.bin. Only the file zImage.bin is available in the zip file and I can't find the others at the site.
I also tried following the procedure described by eddiectc (post 8) for NAND restore. I don't get an option for NAND restore (is the diag menu what one reaches by pressing power with ok held down?). If I request an update from CF, I get OZ. I must be doing something stupid, but I need someone to tell me what it is. I bet I'm not formatting the CF correctly. I tried formatting it in my camera, but when I do that I get the same results (which is why I suspect that I'm not doing it correctly). |

I usally use power with OK, just for ease. |

OK, this is promising. I added the file updater.sh to the ones from SL6000L-US-1.12.zip (ffffffff.bin initrd.bin mainte.bin nanddiag.bin updater.pro initfs.bin initrd.gz mversion.bin paraminf.bin zImage.bin) on the CF.
Now I get the messages: Flash erasing...done 0% 100% ........................... Success! Maser version Success! Please reset At this point, I push the reset button on the back of the Zaurus, then hit power. OZ tries to boot (but fails to find many files). What am I missing now? |

I tried updating from the maintenance mode (d, p, reset) using the exact same files I used in my previous attempt. Using this technique, the update worked and I am now running the Sharp ROM. Thanks for all the great information posted in this thread.

@jeffbarish: I really want to thank you for posting. Your trials and tribulations mirrored mine exaclty, and I could tell that I was making some sort of progress because I had run into the same problems as you did.
After screwing up Qtopia, I flashed to the Guylhem ROM and had problems with that, so I had to return to the original Sharp ROM. I'd've been lost if it weren't for this thread. |

QUOTE(miskinis @ Aug 22 2005, 04:01 AM) the JAVA is gone I repeated this procedure the other night. It seems that the JAVA gets restored OK, but there was no tab, until I installed the jeode-demos. The original demo that was on there when I received the unit, which was some JAVA-based graph layour demo, is gone. In any case, I figured I'd update this thread, so folks that might be nand-restoring to the original OS, know that the JAVA VM is restored OK. |

I have used it many time and then restored my backup and had my Z right back to the point it was before I started playing. The instruction from sharps website on how to uses this restore are at http://zaurus.thegrantclan.org/download/za...ashsharprom.txt. Does this process works only with CF and not SD? This link worked for me: http://www.thegrantclan.org/download/zaurus/roms/tosa/ |

I had the wireless problem too, but I fixed it by running 'depmod -a' as root.
I have no idea how I mangled my module dependancy information. |

I tried to flash OZ-OPIE to my sl6000, went through the procedure documented on this site with the maintainance menu, get the console messages that it is flashing the image files, reset, and then try to format it through the maintainance menu. At this point the screen goes blank and the power light goes off. I can do nothing or see nothing going on until I do a reset again. I tried restoring a fresh stock NAND on an SD card but the same thing happens. Don't tell me a made a brick please! What can I do?

Hi.
is better that this never happens but i think that is impossible for me and now i have to restored mi Zaurus SL6000L. I have read all the posts about this so. First i got into diagnostic menu pressing D an P while reset and put the battery on so in the menu i go to 4 page and i make a nand back up to CF and it makes me a file SYST00006.DBK in the CF. Now i am goingo to get the original rom from http://www.externe.net/zaurus/flash/nand/backup/ the last option i think is the righ one and i will try to restore putting this file in the CF and going to restoring in the menu, in the nand restore also in the 4 page. Well in a few time i will tell you how is it going. Thanks |

Your Compact Flash card needs to be formatted as FAT (also called FAT16), not vfat or fat32. Copy the nand backup to the Compact Flash card, and try again. Hopefully that is the only problem.
