hello,
after digging a little i'm quite lost and cannot find how to activate USB to recognize my usb mouse or usb card reader. i believe it was working 'automagically' last time i installed obsd on my c3k... after a quick view of OZ3.5.4.1-alpha2 i've come back to obsd current snapshot and i cannot find how to activate usb mouse. i'm really new to BSD and i've got short time before leaving for a week without internet access. can comeone give me a few commands? thanks in advance Loran |

I have noticed that very occasionally the USB host port doesn't recognise devices after a boot that should be recognised 'automagically' unless you made a special kernel with all the USB stuff disabled.
Try again after a reboot. -Andy |

The good news is that most USB detection doesn't fail once the system has booted and detected correctly the first time. This may point to an initialization problem for the USB host port (i.e. the device isn't properly reset to a known state before an attempt is made to initialize it).
I gave up with my axe based USB NIC because I had a few problems with USB when it was plugged and unplugged a few times actually causing some instability... it was more cost effective for me to replace it with a good CF based wired NIC. This is why I chose to buy a Socket 10/100 CF card and adapt the driver to support it. 3.9 -current (not release) has my patch for this card now. -Andy |

can someone tell us more about usb host not being recognized ?
sometimes my usb host cable is not recognized ; but this is very random... i have to reboot to have it recognized again... any clue?? |

In 4.0 my USB cable worked as USB host without a problem, but when I installed a March snapshot it stopped to work. After a few hours of confusion and searches I finally cut the cable's connector and discovered, that my USB cable was not actually a Z-compatible USB-host cable
 (the two contacts were not soldered together). I soldered them together and after that it worked as before. I did not check the unsoldered cable with Linux, but I think it wouldn't work. Looks like the older OpenBSD releases did not care about the connector, and probably the USB-handling changes have something to do with this. |

The usb host and the usb devices are recognized as two separate devices, and i also need to plug out and in the host cable to use other devices. |

still some strange behaviour of the usb host cable even with GENERIC#113...
it happens that it seems to be well recognized just after a root login (!) for example once it is not recognized, i just logoff then open a root login and the cable is recognized when i plug it... so no need to reboot... what could explain that??? |
