Hi all. Time to order an 802.11 card so that I can use my 3100 for email and a bit of web which is what I got it for!
I've been looking through these forums and I see that almost all the cards work. So I was wondering which is the best? I've seen a few cards on ebay, like ambicom, symbol, and some others. can't seem to find dlink. Anyway, i was wondering what is best for signal strength, reliability, smallness (not blocking headphones, stylus) or other criteria? TIA. Emil |

i am using the M701 from netgear with an external anntenna mod that gives me incredable range with ethier my Yagi or dipole (what you see on wireless routors) antenna. the stock stuff just dosent compare
i am happy with it, great accsess to the stylus sticks out a bit which i dont like but could get used to reception before the upgrade was ok and tended to work straight away the biggest problem i had was lack of WPA, just get one bassed off the prisim 2 chipset and you should be fine you might want to look here ( http://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Wireless_Card_Support ) |

1. placed a knofe around the buldge at the end and pushed inwards to make it pop off
2. located the antenna connector (looks like a mini ink well) and cut it off using angled micro nippers 3. traced the pcb tracks to thier source and found that the outside one was ground 4. Cut a pig tail conector in half 5. Soldered the shield (outside of pigtail) to ground 6. soldered remaining parts to other track 7. cut hole in case for connector I plan to modify it to be dual antennat soon to improve reception a bit and allow for a yagi and Dipole at the same time. if you have basic soldering skills then this is an easy hack to do, it looks messy but thats what the cover is for. if you locate the right pigtail then you dont have to solder anything i had to solder as i boaght the wrong connector, i cant remeber the name of the correct one but i can locate it if you want. if there is enogh demand i will put up a tutorial note: if you solder it works for all wireless cards as some dont have the external antenna connector like mine did |

 I'd like some more info on your procedure if you have time (seems to be a really lacking resource for me these days *sigh*). Perhaps a picture or two if you're able?How's the power consumption on your card? Does the M701 card sap electricity like Kryptonite saps Superman's strength!?

Ambicom - definitely the smallest and neatest, reliability - not had a problem, signal strength - seems average DLink - looks a bit dated and chunky, works fine Planex - tends to find more networks and have more range but it is big. None of these block any ports - I think that problem was limited to 5000/5500/6000 models. They all seem to give about 2 hours continual use from a full charge. |

it dosent suck more power (in fact it should use less if anything) however i do get the screen fading to white some times, as soon as i take out the card ots fine so mabey it is using to much power (or i have a short circuit in there
 ) dosent happen to often so i am not worried, i will try and get a tutorial up soon but there are plenty on the net already. but when i make it dual antenna then i will post some pics up |

I would be interested in knowing which WiFi CF card sticks out least. I have a Netgear MA701 and the plastic end that sticks out is broken at the ends but luckily it still is in one piece and still works. I am wondering which card to get as a possible replacement in the future when it finally breaks. I think the most important criteria for wifi cards on the zaurus are:
will it work? ie driver support battery consumption? which wifi card consumes least power? range? as long as it works 10 meters away from my wireless route, i be happy size. how much does it stick out from the Zaurus? the netgear one looked small on its packaging, but now I am wondering if there are smaller ones. |

Thanks, I will buy that one as soon as I get my C3000 back. I just realised that I will need 2 CF Wifi cards, one for my C3100 and one for my C3000 I been telling one of my friends who is doing IT security that I am going to attack his firewall with two Zauris, ie distributed attack using two different wifi networks. We will be going to find out how dangerous a pair of zauri can get.

How about USB wi-fi G. I have a pocket DLInk Antena / Router / Access Point that I use to go to clients.... Does the C3100 USB function allow an USB Wifi Adapter to be recognized?
