I don't know what the latest word on SDHC with the 2.6.x kernels is, but having an SD card that large in a Z would be awesome. |

What is the current status of SDHC support on Zauri in the various ROMs ?
I'm using a C760 with Cacko 1.23 and a new SD driver to support my 2GB card. I think the Sharp rom and Cacko won't support SDHC. How about pdaXrom ? Or Angstrom ? Any other viable option ? |

Angstrom is the only one that's close as far as I can tell. Whether or not it actually works -- that's another story. I use pdaXrom, so I haven't tested it. koen mentioned they had support for SDHC cards but I haven't heard of anyone actually trying it (although I haven't really looked).

I was under the impression that SDHC was physically incompatible with first generation SD slots. I hope I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the new version 2 specs are only compatible with SD version 2 readers.
Anybody know the real facts about this? |

That has been beaten to death on other threads. Many people thought the same, but apparently it's a software thing. I think the idea is that SDHC card will work in regular SD slots but not as fast or something like that. Anyway, theoretically it works.

Slow speed is already an issue with the regular SD cards.
If the SDHC cards would be as slow or slower, I fail to see the usefulness of implementing them other than the fact that the regular SD cards may eventually become extinct. |

The standard SD cards will never have a capacity of more than 4GB and this is a big issue. It would be great for our Zauri to get SDHC support in as many ROMs as possible.
Unfortunately I guess that it won't happen for the Cacko ROM that is dead since quite a long time but if it could come to pdaXrom and Angstrom it would be great ! |

dougeeebear, I don't think the SDHC card would be slower than regular SD cards, just not as fast as SDHC cards are meant to be. Of course, I might be crazy and there is no speed limitation at all, but if there is, I would expect the SDHC cards to have a similar if not slightly faster performance than regular SD cards.
BUT...I have never used an SDHC card, so take what I say with a grain of salt. |

SDHC is same physical spec as SD, except the addressing scheme is blocks and not bytes AIUI.
The Z uses, if I'm correct, the SD in MMC compatibility mode, so it doesn't use the full width of the interface to the card. Read speed on the Z probably reached theoretical maximum 2 years ago when the 10x SD cards were on sale? Write speed probably maxed out not long after. I too would welcome SDHC and a nice big 8 or 16G card for my Z - at the very least I could read the memory card from my digital camera! |

as far as i can tell the only diffrence on the hardware front is that SDHC cards accept a wider range of freq. on the clock line
if i recall correcttly SD was 4 bit at up to 25Mhz, i bet SDHC just bumps that up a bit to 50Mhz or higher the problem is that most controller chips are hard coded up to 25Mhz or are undocumented at higher speeds so you just run sdhc at slower than its maximum and it still works |
