Recent Browser? Options

Is there a recent browser available for pdaXrom? When trying to use the firefox in my beta3 install,
I get errors about the age of the browser when accessing my favorite sites (yahoo, facebook, etc)

I don't think there's anything really up-to-date for pdaXrom. Debian and Zubuntu have Firefox 3 and Webkit-based browsers. Angstrom has some version of FF and a number of Webkit-based browsers.

If you really like pdaX, you can dual-boot it with one of the above.

I don't have any special loyalty to one distribution over another... I'd just sorta gotten used to weeXpc (Daniel's adaptation of beta3).
I looked into Zubuntu.. but didn't really understand how to get it to install to the 3200's hard drive.

Just follow those directions, replacing references to CD/CF card with the microdrive (or run from an SD card, as per the directions).

The simplest thing to do might be to install Angstrom into the flash (you'd have to use an Akita image to do that, FWIW) and leave pdaXrom on the microdrive.

If you're interested in multi-booting, I'd ask/look in the Zubuntu forum. I'm afraid I'll likely give you bad/unclear directions.

That web page talks about preparing a sd card, then flashing a multi-boot kernel, then using the multi-boot kernel to boot to the sd card.

I would be only interested in simply replacing pdaXrom with zubuntu... not messing around with multi-boot kernels and booting from sd cards.

I recently switched over from pdaxrom to zubuntu using the omegamoon instructions. I am running a multiboot environment but just have zubuntu installed. It works well for me, after some tweeking. The preparation of the sd card went by easily. Then after flashing the kexec kernel, zubuntu booted right up. It really is pretty easy, coming from a non-developer type.

The short of it's going to be:

-Install some distro into flash (temporary, necessary to the installation onto the microdrive)
-Follow SD set-up directions, except do it to your internal microdrive instead of an SD card

If anything there doesn't make sense, let me know what and I'll try to clarify.

Ok.. I've got zubuntu up and running on the sd card, now I just need to know how to get it running off the microdrive.

It should be as easy as mounting the MD and copying all of the SD files over to it, something like:

cd /
copy -rp * /mount/point/of/microdrive

Upon reboot, the microdrive should be recognized as a new boot device.

Note that I haven't actually tried it, so if you're not feeling adventurous, you'll likely want to wait for another response.
