I flashed tkc rom a couple of days ago and I like it fine, just one thing bothring me: I couldn't get it to accept zbedic, my favourite dictionnary, it just doesn't accept the file as ipk package.
Any suggestions, or has so else tried it yet? I had openzaurs 3.2 before and liked it quite well, but as the project is still stuck with the old kernel, i had to move forward. On openzaurus, zbedic worked fine (same file). Thanks in advance for any help... |

Will this work on the 5600? I read one post on the tkc list where it was mentioned, but lost the post. Also, is there a way to back up the original Sharp ROM since they haven't posted anything yet for the 5600.

I just flashed my Z with thekompany ROM everything is wonderful, amazing, but the sync part is another history. Every time I click on PC LInk and change de connection from "USB - I/O (default)" to "USB - TCP/IP (advanced) and then press "OK" it crashes (hangs), and to make it worst it doesnt save the setting. So in other words I cant f***ing, sync. Help would be greatly appreciated! ------------------------------------ SL-5500 TheKompany ROM RC4 Qtopia desktop 1.6 |

If I remember correctly, on 3.10 ROMS and all dirivitives of the 3.10 ROM (thekompany ROM, cacko, etc.) they switched from using FTP on the Z to using Samba for connectivity.

Is serial sync (with Outlook) supported on the tkc ROM (or the Sharp 3.1 for that matter)?? I'm still using Win NT on my work computer, which does not support USB. The serial sync-ing works great, but I'm still on Sharp ROM 2.37 because it works fine. I bought the Z mainly to sync with outlook, so the serial connection is pretty important to me.
I'd *like* a newer ROM. I haven't upgraded from 2.37 'cuz of the loss of IrDA dial-up too. I don't suppose the tkc ROM fixes the IrDA dial-up to my T68 cell phone? allen |

I can't speak specifically for the tkc rom and serial sync, but I know it's based on the 3.10 rom, and I did have my 5500 syncing via serial on my win2k box. Even though win2k supports usb, I found the serial sync to be much more reliable. So I would assume that the tkc rom does indeed support it.
The benefits of the newer roms are great (speed, looks, etc.) Regards, offroadgeek |

Ahh, that's the answer I was hoping for.
Then that moves me to the next question, if it syncs fine with Outlook, I don't have to worry about migrating all my PIM info from the old (2.37) format to the new 3.10 format? I can just let it be wiped it out when I flash the new ROM and then synchronize? |

Yup! That's what I do. I wipe out my rom often (just screwing around), and since I keep all my pim data in Outlook, and because I have zero issues with syncing (wifi syncing is grrreat!). I never worry about losing data. I also keep my documents/ebooks, bookmarks backed up on my SD card....

I moved to the tkcROM yesterday, after first installing Outlook and syncing to it to ensure my data was properly backed up. Kudos to offroadgeek --- I read his posts to be sure I had a good sync, first. I've got a lot of history in my calendar and a large address book, and did not care to reenter all the data. I have noticed, however, that the "displayed" dates for appointments are correct in Ourlook, but are now showing up two hours off in the Sharp calendar. Any suggestions? :?

If I remember correctly, I believe the tkcrom has only the 32/32 memory split... same as the original Sharp 3.10 rom. Proto though has said that he is working on offering other memory configs sometime...

Just flashed this rom yesterday. Eventually persuaded it to sync and Samba started to work. I had to remove the Windows software and reinstall though. Did a sync, backup and installed various apps.
This was with USB IO standard. ( I had been using Sharp 3.10 so had the proper software.) Like an earlier poster I got a frozen Z when I ued PCLINK to change to ADVANCED USB TCP/IP. Also, like him, the settings didn't appear to alter. After a few attempts I gave in and tried synching and backing up again. It worked with my PC set to ADVANCED. When I looked at PCLINK settings it now, after several freezes and soft resets, said it was set to ADVANCED! Is this a bug, have I missed something? I will not be altering PCLINK settings now but when I look at them I quit by hitting the X instead of OK. One last thing, somewhere I saw a comment that it didn't recognise 8) OPIE apps, it certainly installs and runs some of them cheers 8) |

so far this has been the most usable rom for me...even though i prefer what is happening with OZ.
My only complaint so far is when i installed opie-calendar, there were no icons for it and the icons for the different views (week,day,month,year,etc...) got all screwed up. anyone know a fix for this? also...where do you find the 'desktop' icons and how do you link them to the applications? TIA |
