It looks as if the Security Update 2005-003 breaks the Z's unofficial Mac OS X USB driver. I installed the SU last night before going to bed and this morning I'm no longer able to connect to the Z via the cradle. Had to use wireless.
Am going to try installing the driver again, but the driver itself may need to be updated. |

I rebooted my iBook and turned the Z off and on again, and all's going swimmingly. No idea what happened before. |

QUOTE(eji @ Mar 22 2005, 03:00 PM) why the iBook wasn't recognizing my Z. In the end it just needed a reboot. I assume there is still a bug in the driver. I know of problems especially if the Zaurus is battery powered and goes to sleep mode while there is a TCP/IP connection open. Or an iBook/Powerbook goes to sleep. After awaking, TCP connections can hang. But ping will work. In approx. 95% of all cases, explicitly switching off/on the Zaurus and/or Airport will "repair" the situation. From time to time the kernel or driver looses some configuration association resulting in "Ethernet port ((null))" in the Network settings. The last time this happened, I moved the USB connection to the other USB port - and it worked again. So it seems to have something to do with the USB - IP association. Unfortunately I do not understand myself enough about the USB driver and the MacOS IOKit - so I was not yet able to fix it and propose a patch to the author. -- hns |

My Zaurus SL 5500G is running with SharpROM 3.13 + Cacko Kernel Patch. My Apple PowerBook has now OS 10.3.9 and all Security Updates installed. I have version 0.2.8 of Andreas Junghans' USB driver installed (AJZaurusUSB_0_2_8.tgz). I'm not able to connect the Zaurus and my PowerBook via the USB Cradle any more - pings in both directions do not work although the "virtual" ethernet port on the PowerBook has IP No 192.168.129.1 At the moment, I don't want to (and can't) change to OS 10.4 Is there anything I can do to make the USB connection work? Thanks in advance, best regards Martin |

Thanks in advance, best regards Martin OK, it works again - what I've done is the following: I changed the network settings to "automatic", deleted the USBoverEthernet-Configuration, switched back to my standard network settings, then connected the Zaurus. (I had changed the IP address of the Zaurus before and now had changed it back to the Sharp-standard address xxx.129.201.) Now the Zaurus was recognized and I was really surprised. Searching for the difference I found out, that now the configuration of the USBoverEthernet network connection on the mac was (by default) DHCP. And since then (many hours now :-)) it works. ... the next days will show if it really works or if it is only a temporary solution. Best regards Martin |
