Could you post the kernel zimage and updater.sh for 2.6.31-rc8-omegamoon-spitz? zImage is in the root-additions archive (/boot directory). I don't know why you need an updater.sh (there are a few on my site). Don't even try to flash the 2.6.31-rc8 kernel, because it's way too large. Always use the bootmanager to start this kernel! |

Yeah found that out It may be worse then "just" the menu-package. The "illegal instruction" after doing a apt-get upgrade seems to be related to a bug in the latest version of libstdc++6. This breaks apt completely at the moment! |

BTW, it took me best part of 24 hours to unzip the root filesystem to SD! |

BTW, it took me best part of 24 hours to unzip the root filesystem to SD! It's ready, use it, just hold your horses and wait to upgrade to the latest (development) packages! When upgrading you're on your own for now. By the way, if it took so extremely long to unzip the root filesystem you really need to think about buying a new SD card. I use a Sandisk Extreme III card which may be more expensive than the average card, but it's speedy, and you'll need every extra bit of speed. Apart from that, setting up a swap partition really helps speeding things up when browsing the Net for instance! So, again, start using it, and have fun! Cheers, cortez |

Thanks Cortez. Got a busy week ahead but hope to find time to take the plunge.
In the meantime, can anybody tell me if they have had any success with: Compiling PERL CPAN modules? Python? Java? Does tcpdump sniff all traffic on the wireless LAN or just multicasts and packets to/from the Z? Yes, my SD card is a year or two old. Ideally, I'd want Zubuntu on microdrive which I'll attempt if it checks out well. |

Be careful about any updates, there are a suprising amount of things that trigger the flaw in the present libstdc++6 package. More or less anything big, gnome related or xfce4 related seems to trigger the update. If its standalone or just console it seems to go fine. Nano for example apt-get's just fine.

Cortez, is there a another version of kdrive than 1:1.3.0.0-r21?
I am using your first release of zubuntu and "font bug" is really annoying. |

I did the flash a few days ago but found Zubuntu would not boot - a message told me to fsck my card but even doing so on a separate linux box failed to fix it so I finally gave up, reformatted and started again. This time, success! or at least partial success. It booted - and yes, it is beatiful to look at - but my install was running soooo slooooow! This must be mainly down to my SD card (the file extraction alone took the best part of a day). Anyway, I'm currently extracting a new install to the an hda3 partition on the microdrive of my Spitz. My plan is for a 2G install for Zubuntu and two smaller partitions to dual-boot into OpenZaurus.Having accidentally trashed my OZ build I've now got nothing to lose.
I'll report back shortly. |

OK, I'm gonna need some help here.
Copied rootfs and spitz kernel to hdd3 on my microdrive. hdd1 and hdd2 are where I'm going to run Openzaurus. Boot the Z and the multi-boot selector finds two installs of Zubuntu, one on SD and he other on microdrive (which it reports to be CF). The SD one still boots fine. When I try to boot from CF/Microdrive I get the following: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly on device 3:3 Freeing init memory: 88K Warning: Unable to open initial console Sorry, but I'm no expert in fstab. Any ideas? |

... When I try to boot from CF/Microdrive I get the following: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly on device 3:3 Freeing init memory: 88K Warning: Unable to open initial console Try to copy /dev from SD to microdrive, should be ok. Is there any way to solve this without installing to a SD-card also? The only thing I have is a Cacko install which I brought back after zubuntu failed to start, but the rootfs is there on the microdrive. |
