It appears that GPD did some improvements and came our with a V2. It has a different eMMC, better fitting buttons and a slightly different case - matte finish.

However, reports from HotUkDeals suggests some people have been unlucky in getting a chimera, which is part old and part new version.

The old model's eMMC is supposedly slightly faster but it shouldn't make a difference in the real world.

So if you're buying one, it's worth checking which version you're getting, especially if buying used.

I find it interesting that the GPD Pocket can come with Windows or Ubuntu.

Having been burned by buying a Baytrail device, which can't run Linux without crashing, even with custom kernels, I'm a little nervous about whether CherryTrail fixes the bugs in the SoC design.

A fairly comprehensive article about it here, and link to the Kickstarter page:

I noticed that The Phawx has two of these, one with the x7-8700 and the other with the x7-8750 Intel SoC.

He dismantled one of them because there's a problem with heat dissipation, it seems there's poor thermal couple between the CPU and the metal heat spreader.

Just in case we get DNS problems, it's worth adding the following to your hosts file

# last checked 20161003
#152.19.134.41 www.oesf.org vhost.ibiblio.org

then if the oesf.org domain loses valid DNS, you can still access the forums by uncommenting the 2nd line.
