Hi,
I just found out, that Open BSD ist available for the C3000 (see http://www.openbsd.org/zaurus.html ). Did someone try it? How fast is it im comparison to Qtopia? Cu Thomas |

ther's allready two or three posts about it :/ btw it's not yet supporting evey devices of the Zaurus (screen is rotated in console mode, sound is not supported etc...)

The 3.7 release of OpenBSD will have support for the C3000 architecture, according to their site.
Just a question for anyone in the know... I'm on the verge of picking up a C1000. Architecture is mostly the same as the C3000, as we all know, but I was wondering how compatible the bsd install would be? The files run to approx 300MB unzipped, according to the installation notes. I was forced into using freebsd against my wishes about 2 years ago, and I'm a complete convert, so this would suit me down to the ground. Harry. |

You can do a minimal install that would fit in the flash, but to do a full install you would have to install part of it to SD or CF.
I've been toying with the idea of installing multiple OSen to different SD cards (leaving the CF slot available for networking) and using the Sharp ROM as a bootloader. That's how OpenBSD works, according to their documentation. Grub for the Z? Something like that. It would be fun to be able to switch operating systems between OZ, pdaXrom, OpenBSD, and others by swapping a card and rebooting. |

I probably should add that I don't know if there is any good PIM suite available, I'm mostly using it as a laptop stand-in to do ssh, e-mail, web browsing etc so I haven't looked much for one. I did compile kdepim but it took a week and I think it would require more memory and perhaps a faster CPU to run OK. I'm currently using the matchbox window manager, but fvwm worked fine too as I think most window managers would. Most of the programs in the ports tree seem to work.

How do you get the rotated screen to work on OpenBSD? I assumed that
merely rotating the screen during xwindows would do it, but nope. Also how does one get a usb connection to a desktop working? and how do you mount: sd card cf card usb mass storage Note that your normal linux and vfat partitions can be mounted from within the BSD partition as /dev/wd0i /dev/wd0j or /dev/wd0k or whatever letter they happen to be. |
