HelloZ...
I've Zaurus 5500. Last week i bought a Asus WL-110 for it. I'm trying to put it to work, but no success... i've read a lot of post but i can't understand, what's going wrong. SHARP ZAURUS 5500 ASUS WL-110 >cardctl ident Socket 0: product info: "ASUS", "802_11B_CF_CARD_25", "Version 01.00", "" manfid: 0x02aa, 0x0002 function: 6 (network) Socket 1: no product info avaiable > ifconfig Only appear info about lo and usbd0. Nothing about eth0! My WLAN config, are only the SSID and Channel. As mencioned in this page My testing's have been in changing values on "Internet Wizard", "Network & Sync", "Wireless LAN Setting". I know that A.P. is working because i have laptop connected to it. I need to get this to work, but i'm very confused. First I need to know if the Card is recognized and correctly configured. And then i need help, to put the WLAN to work... Please Help Me Regards NCarvalho |

News news news....
"No, it's not working yet" I've found this post: http://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=4980 i done the step by step: QUOTE 1. Plug in the card, type cardctl ident 2. You should get a bit of info for Socket 0. Copy down the "product info:" text ("WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA" for my card) 3. Edit the file /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf and add the following... 1. card "Some description" 2. version the product info text you copied above 3. bind "prism2_cs" 4. Save the file unplug the card and reboot. The card should be recognised when you plug it in. You will then be able to set up networking as normal. So i've add to my /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf QUOTE card "Asus" "ASUS", "802_11B_CF_CARD_25", "Version 01.00", "" bind "prism2_cs" And rebooted... Now the Card is recognized... ifconfig already shows eth0. but i can't get the IP from router ... that will be the next step... NCarvalho |

If so you may need to add that to your /etc/network/interfaces file under the eth0 section. Also you've not said which ROM you're using, is dhcpclient installed? |

I don't have /etc/network/interfaces The most alike is: /etc/network-device Should I create /etc/network/interfaces?? (i don't think so) What could be the problem here? Regards... NCarvalho PS: I think i will try config static IP. I post the results here.... NC |

Well, I never used the original sharp rom. But the ASUS Card works out of the box with the newer OZ roms (Hentges roms and OZ 3.5.1).
It worked also out of the box with the tkcRom, that is based on Sharprom. I think it will work with newer Sharproms 3.1x and the Cacko rom out of the box too. Cheers, Sam |

I dont know how to fix your problem, but for the other rom, maybe flashing cacko on your 5500 will fix your problem.
Thats mean thought you would lose your data, or just sync them on your pc, then flash cacko and sync them back. Because i doubt you can backup the sharp rom, flash the cacko rom and restore it over. Else i advice you to try cacko or OpenZaurus 3.5.1, they are nice roms, with a lots more features than the basic sharp ROM. there is probably an howto here on this site how to do it, else check in the download section for the cacko rom and www.openzaurus.org for OZ rom, both worth the try, maybe try both of them and choose the one you prefer Good luck =P |

Hi ncarvalho,
yes this means changing rom. Using any other rom will increase stability on you zaurus comparing with the 2.3x sharproms. Well OZ 3.5.1 is maybe a little bit tricky, if you are new to zaurus. Maybe you try the 3.1x roms from sharp. These are regular updates so to your rom and the update process is described on sharp sites. I would recommend to use a compact flash card to flash, not the way using the craddle. Flashing sharproms update the bootloader code in Zaurus. Flashing other roms dont deal with these deeper levels of code. So they are not dangerous to flash (well this dont means that flashing sharprom is dangerous, i just dont know it for sure). I have two Zaurus. One for everyday life. The second one for testing etc. I flashed the second Z a lot of times (cant count). Flashing the Zaurus is not a really big issue You should just be carefull to backup your data and sync before, so you can restore it after flashing. Cheers, Sam |

Hi, i don't know if you are still searching for a solution so i just gonna post it.
You don't need to upgrade to another Rom (else then the Sharp one, but get the latest of it). Just open your /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf and add the following at the end of the file: card "ASUS Spacelink WL-110 Wireless LAN CF Card" manfid 0x02aa, 0x0002 bind "prism2_cs" After the alteration, reboot the machine and plug in the card.
