microsoft releases .mps maps to work with its pocketpc application :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

There are in a known format and there are exisiting converters such as gpsbabel:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/gpsbabel/

On the zaurus, zroadmap 1.05 (latest version- can't find the sources or the .ipk nowhere) is a great mapping application.

Maybe with zroadmap + gps babel + microsoft maps you will have some luck ? Keep us informed.

guylhem,

gpsbabel converts only waypoints, tracks and routes, not the actual maps. zroadmap uses its own proprietary format that follows closely TIGER/UA definitions and probably won't be convenient for any other map format.

You could get yourself a program like autoroute and generate map images from it. You can use these with qpegps. you will also need to make a note of the GPS coordinates of the map end points while in AutoRoute.

Don't do it myself, but a friend I sold a Zaurus and GPS unit to uses it and is quite happy with it. Not exactly TomTom, but it works, and he is still my friend biggrin.gif

As long as you don't distribute the maps to anyone else, then there is no problem.

I've read this topic;
I've installe qpegps on my SL6000L

i'm new in gps and so i 've a simple question...

1.how can i calibrate a map ? may i need some other software ?

2. Zuber say to use Autoroute to get a map but the pc screen is only 1024x768 so how can i get a detailed map for a city ?

i've ITALIAN route 66 , i need some maps of italian cities but sometimes i ve to zoom for seeing a detailed street...so how can i save it for calibrationg and for importing into qpegps ?

Anyone can help me ?

Thanks Gabriele

There is an excellent Perl script posted over on the qpeGPS forum.

Just tried it and it is just the thing for getting maps. All ready prepared for quick use in qpeGPS.

Much more straightforward that playing with Autoroute. I just used Autoroute to get some initial GPS co-ordinates.

Give exteme xy limits, scale and overlap and it retrieves a set of maps for you.

Need to be sensible about it (Don't try and get an entire country at detailed street level) but I was impressed (doesn't take much smile.gif )

See :

http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thr...forum_id=206322

qpeGPS could do with a few more tweaks, but it is a very good start.
Just needs zoom feature and map viewing without gps and it would be tops (short of a full blown route planner).
