QUOTE(samac @ Jul 15 2005, 09:04 PM) QUOTE(acpkendo @ Jul 15 2005, 08:08 PM) This is a problem with the IRK.conf file, that I thought was fixed in the current version. In any case, the easiest way is to drop out of Opie, install it from the command line, and then copy the /etc/skel/IRK.conf file (I think that's the location) to ~/Settings/ Then you should be golden. OK I found IRK.conf in /etc There was a folder called IRK.conf in ~/Settings/ and it was linked to /media/card/home/root/Settings/IRK.conf/ I deleted the folders, copied /etc/IRK.conf to /media/card/home/root/Settings/IRK.conf then ln -s /media/....../IRK.conf ~/Settings/IRK.conf Rebooted and I now have a fully working infra-red keyboard. Many, Many, Many Thanks. Samac Hi there, I took a look at the ZUG feed and did not even find the irk*.ipk ... much less install it ... ideas? |

Samac, I get the following error when I try to install "irk_0.11-r2_arm.ipk" ...
"Nothing to be done An error ocurred, return value: 4. Collected errors: Cannot find package irk. Check the spelling or perhaps run 'ipkg update' I issued "ipkg -d sd --force-depends install irk_0.11-r2_arm.ipk" What's wrong? |

Yes, I have read the entire thread many times and tried the steps outlined by acpkendo as well ... QUOTE Do not use the ipk from the ZUG feed on OZ--none of the packages from external sites I've used have worked on 3.5.3. The solution had something to do with strange dependency errors and/or the naming of the packages--Mickeyl commented that ipkg was too smart for its own good. The solution is as follows: 1) download the ipk to the Z (sorry, can't help you as to why it won't download--maybe try downloading to a desktop and transferring) 2) disable all feeds in /etc/ipkg.conf or via the package manager (you needn't erase them, just disable). 3) run ipkg update (or update via the package manager) 4) install the local copy of IRK (ipkg install ./irk-blahblah_0.11.0-r0_arm.ipk, or via the package manager). With no other dependencies in the database, it should install cleanly. 5) reboot (you can probably just restart Opie, but I haven't had a lot of luck with that). 6) re-enable all the feeds in /etc/ipkg.conf or the package manager 7) update It is very apparent that acpkendo's post is the one I had to try as it is about the only instruction there is! I am out of ideas how this installation will not even show the input method in the input selection. If there is anyone else with an alternate feed or installation steps that works for Belkin Universal keyboard (IR) with hentges rom oz3.5.3, please advise! Thanks! |

Greg I tried both, but I'll give it another shot (again) ... btw, does it matter if I have different versions of the IRK builds in my CF or SD card even though I am issuing the right command? Thx! |

Just retried, now the error becomes
"Nothing to be done An error ocurred, return value: 4. Collected errors: Cannot find package irk-belkin Check the spelling or perhaps run 'ipkg update'" How? btw, when I run "ipkg update" as per acpkendo's post, should be having the wifi card in? I am already running the latest oz3.5.3 and the hentges rom, will "ipkg update" mess things up? I've read some where that ipkg in the hentges rom is already the latest and should not require an update again. What gives? |

No it won't mess things up, and you have to be connected to the internet to run ipkg update (not to be confused with upgrade!) and you will need all the depends like lirc_0.7.0-r5_collie.ipk from the /machine/collie feed. ok, apparently I did not click on the "update" after disabling each entry in apkg. Now it gives error one, missing dependency on lirc ...
hmmm ... lirc fails to install ... grrr ... |

Hi Greg,
Thanks for your time and help. I just tried installing lirc-modules_0.7.0-r3_collie.ipk and got the following errors: mknod: /dev/lirc: File exists postinst script returned status 1 ERROR: lirc-modules.postinst returned 1 shall I remove /dev/lirc? EDIT: I just deleted /dev/lirc and retried ... it still had the status 1 error without the mknod failure... hmmm |

No! When I say you 'need' something for it to work... you should check to see if you have it before you try to install it. OK... I just checked and the Hentges rom comes with lirc and the lirc-modules installed. I followed acpkendo's instructions in this thread like samac said and had no problems installing the irk-belkin ipk. The problem is I don't have a keyboard to check it out... I was just trying to help you make yours work. I would suggest you clean up the mess you probably have from this (sorry about that) and follow acpkendo's instructions using the irk-belkin ipk. Greg |
